"De Oppresso Liber"
I have completed the first four missions of the opening battles on the southern part of the Kursk salient. I have flight and mission tested one already and hope to do the same with the other three tonight, before moving on to building the next missions. I'll try to get some decent screen shots.
The German airfields from the download I am using for the Kursk bases, are so bare, I had to add a lot of facilities: hangars, AA positions, HQ and radio buildings etc. Then, I had to add parked aircraft, AA guns and vehicles. I will include the layouts in the campaign download.
The first four missions are Soviet dawn strikes on two of the Kharkov area airfields. Your Pilot will be the flight leader in either an IL-2 or a La-5. The Pilot's opponents: beaucoup FLAK; bf-109s or FW-190s that may or may not be on CAP or take off, randomly each time you fly the mission; limited dawn visibility.
Cheers:

The Yak has its CG set too far forward making it nose heavy. I'm not sure if this is set in the airfile and the config file, or just the config file alone. Anyway, you can hand edit the config file and give it a try.

Captain Kurt

Good. He does really nice work, but I haven't seen him around for some time now.

That sounds very exciting, SW07! Glad you found a solution for the Jaks!
Two missions turned into four: I did strike missions on 2 German airbases using Il2s. Then I decided to duplicate them but with the Player in an escort/interceptor = 4 missions Then, I decided to have 4 more missions, based on the first 4, but with an increased German fighter response.
In the screenshot below, I had just had a Bf-109 shot off my tail by a friendly fighter and had laid some 'eggs' on a row of parked aircraft at Kharkov-Osnovo airbase just after dawn. I had to lighten the picture some so you could more easily see.

Greg,
It's very exciting to read your mission briefs about this and see how it all is coming together!

"title_string"=A_Kursk-S_Il-2-Our Counterattack Begins-12-1JT
"summary_string"=Dobroe utro, comrades. Our regiment has finally received clearance to launch at 0530 hours. Grad, you will take off and fly SSE on a 145 degree heading for 36 miles to RP-KLEN. There you and Grom will link up With you escorts and proceed another 15 miles SSW until you encounter the Nazi armored column in Sektor S-024. Engage and destroy as many enemy tanks and armored vehicles as possible with rockets, bombs and gunfire. Once you have expended your ammo, you can then break contact and regroup at RP-AKATSIYA and return to base to rearm for your next mission. Good luck, comrades and give them hell!
"objective_string"=Flight crews had been waiting for a signal to take off since 0330 hours, but the take-off had to be postponed until 0745 due to low cloud cover. The most seasoned attack aircraft pilots took off at about 0500 hours. At about he same time, 5th Guards Tank Army was closing in for a massive counterattack. Flight crews from the 1st Attack Aviation Corps, 5th Guards Attack Aviation Division struck the enemy's forward units, which later turned out to be units Of the 1st SS Panzer Division (LAH).
"intelligence_string"=Comrades, the weather today is our ally. The overnight, heavy cloud cover has finally lifted to just above 3,000 feet, allowing us finally to take off. That same overcast, going up to 11,000 feet, should shield you from enemy fighter CAP threats. For you, visibility below 3,000 is good. Your flight and approach on target at such low altitude should also help to confuse the fascists' radar. Your target is a spearhead of the so-called elite 2nd SS Panzer Corps. So you can expect heavy, accurate ground fire both from mobile FLAK units and the other armored vehicles as well. Our forces are about to launch a massive counterattack. and our strikes are the opening phase.

38 Missions completed. I'm on the 12th of July with the start of the soviet counterattack.

"summary_string"=Dobroe utro, comrades. Our regiment has finally received
clearance to launch. At 1030 hours you will take off and fly south on a
172 degree heading for 40 miles to RP-OKA. After take off, maintain your
altitude below the cloud cover - 3,000 feet or lower - to target to evade
and confuse the fascists' radar. At OKA you Vikhr, with Ezh, Akula, and
Taifun will link up and proceed SE to Sektor S-039. Engage and destroy as
much of the enemy's facilities as possible at RP-DNEPR with rockets bombs
and gunfire. Concentrate your efforts on command and control sites, fuel,
ammo and supply dumps. Once you've expended your ordinance, regroup at
RP-LAGODA and return to base to rearm for your next mission. It is going
to be a busy day today...
"objective_string"=Many flight crews had to wait until 1000 hours for the
signal to take off due to extremely low cloud cover. But later Soviet
aviation operated extremely intensively, making 759 combat sorties by
nightfall. The enemy conducted only 654 sorties that day. The 2nd Air
Army surpassed the enemy in combat sorties for the first time since the
outbreak of the battle in the southern sector. Note: If you don't have
complete overcast, open CFO Weather and change cloud cover to (advanced
weather) 8/8 clouds. And remember, the Hummel SP gun is classified as a
ship (S) not a vehicle (V).
"intelligence_string"=Comrades, the adverse weather today is mainly due to
dense overcast - 3,500 to 11,500 feet but with gentle winds out of the SW.
You target is a forward positioned tactical HQ of XLVII Panzer Corps,
located on the Corps' right flank in Sektor-039. You can expect heavy to
intense ground fire and possible intercept by enemy fighters. The
overcast should help shield you from detection by roving Nazi fighter
patrols. Our 5th Guards Tank Army is launching a major counterattack and
your strike is essential to disrupt enemy communications and resupply.
