Icon22 Defense of Sicily Campaign by Skylane

    Hello!

My Regia Aeronautica campaign about the defense of Sicily in 1943 is now almost ready.

There is only one thing I need to add to the readme:

Rami, maybe you can help, there is this problem with the coastlines around Sicily and southern Italy not fitting the land. I remember there was a thread about this some time ago, but I canīt find it.

I think the problem can be solved by removing one of the cst.. files that Sander did from the World-Scenery Folder. Does it have to be replaced by something else, or just removed?

    Skylane,

I have it right here, you may include it in your campaign package.

Just a note between friends: When I upload the Balkans Project, I am "passing the baton" to you. After working on this piece-by-piece for four years, I have had my fill of the Balkans.

I give you my full blessing and encouragement if you want to do the Yugoslavian angle of the campaign...Yugoslavia's doomed defense and the German effort to overrun it. You may have my sources for it, I will be happy to give them to you. It will require you, Achim, or someone else to make a lot of airfields; it's one of the reasons why I chose not to do it.

If you also need any GSL harbors or anything, just let me know. I'll be glad to help.

Thanks, Rami, this is exactly what I was looking for!

As to the Yugoslavian campaign, well, it certainly sounds interesting, but, as you say, it also sounds like a lot of work1 ;-)
I have the book about the Balkans war by C. Shores, so the Information would be there.. Well, Iīll have a look at it, but I canīt promise anything!

    Wolfgang,

Pages 169-229. It's the only section of the book that I didn't cover.

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: This is a 26 mission campaign about the defense of Sicily by Regia Aeronautica pilots in 1943. You will first fly the Macchi MC-202 with 153° Gruppo, 53° Stormo, and during the second half of the campaign change to 150° Gruppo, flying the Bf-109G.

The missions involve escorting naval and aerial convoys to Tunisia, then, after the end in Africa, defending Pantelleria against Allied air raids, and finally, after the loss of this island, intercepting bombers targeting airfields and ports in Sicily.

The campaign ends with the Allied invasion of Sicily, when 53° Stormo, almost out of serviceable fighters by this time, left Sicily for the Italian mainland.

The comments you make there will appear in the posts below.

    Wolfgang,

Thank you for this...what a wonderful idea. I'm not sure if you realize this, but your campaign essentially reverses the campaign by Devildog73 for the Tuskegee Airmen, as much of the first and second campaigns cover the last days of the Axis in Tunisia, the invasion of Pantelleria, as well as the campaign in Sicily. It's always interesting to fly campaigns from another perspective other than the victor.

I also want to give you another "pat on the back" for your work covering the campaign in the Levant, as well as that French campaign with the Hawk 75. You really are one of the unheralded mission writers of CFS2, and your work is very much appreciated by me, especially considering our shared interest in the Mediterranean.

I will look for those items we discussed in the PM later today when I return from a commitment.

Skylane, this is a great addition to the MTO theater.

Rami, this also complements my 82nd Fighter Group campaign as seen from the other side.

Hi guys, I hope you enjoy it!

Indeed I have flown both the Tuskegee and 82nd FG campaigns and thought it might be fun to look at the action from the other side.

Do you guys include these missions in Italy, Sicily, Greece etc. in one install of CFS 2?

I have Europe (Western) , Eastern theatre (Russia, German, Finnish, etc), Western Desert, and have yet to install very many campaigns such as 82nd group, Tuskeegee etc, so as not to overload a particular install.

I do have Beaus in the Sand, Malta Spifire and Western Desert 1942 installed in one CFS 2 install named "Western Desert".

Guess maybe I should pick a different name for the areas of the confilct so I will know where to place the missions and campaigns.

I have done that in the Pacific with "S.E. Asia"which has Skylane's missions and D.E.I. campaigns. CBI-AVG is in a separate install.

    Any suggestions appreciated!

    Thanks

    Jim,

That's a tough one. I have an MTO Early and an MTO Late. In the MTO Early, I have...

    Heinkels (Med)
    The Balkans Theatre
    Western Desert
    Operation Pedestal / Mezzagosto.
    Fleet Air Arm (Med)
    Malta Spitfire

In the MTO Late, I have

    Beaus in the Sand
    Defense of Sicily
    82nd Fighter Group
The Tuskegee Airmen (However, given the fact you go from Casablanca to Berlin, this one should really be a separate install.)

Also , (let me please) recomend to update the panel of the MC202 Folgore , the VC view has no working gauges. This panel was uploaded in my MC202 356 update.
Feel free to use it or u Rami update it in the library.

    OK, about panels..
Personally, I donīt use the VC when flying missions. I find it impractical to work the hat switch on the Joystick all the time to adjust my views. When using the 2D panel, I can look up, to the sides, wherever, and when I let go of the switch I look forward again immediately.
For this reason I didnīt look into the VC cockpit of the Macchi in the first place.
And with the 2D panels I also have to make a decision what to use. There are quite a few nice ones around that are very much like the real thing, but unfortunately many of these have very small gauges which are difficult to read, which again makes them not very practical for missions.
Also, the view through the gunsight is often obstructed, making it quite difficult to shoot accurately.
For the MC-202 I use the panel that originally came with Corradoīs aircraft, although I use a few different gauges. I have a nice, big attitude indicator and compass to Keep the plane upright when I fly through clouds. The boost gauge is German, I know, but it is the only one I found which gives accurate readings. Ang I have a good view over the nose and though the gunsight, which is very helpful for takeoffs, landings and shooting.
What do you guys think about this? If you like it, I could still add this panel to the package.

It was just a recomendation, for those likes VC views like me. I do not suggest that you include it in your package. It was not a criticism. Only the MC202 should be updated.I personally like to use VC view for combat. It is the obligatory view when a target is fixed or tracked in CFS2.
    I use 2 d for real simulations.
    Good luck
