Think I will wait for a while to let the servers calm down. By now they are probably getting hammered .

Looks like the server is pretty busy Pat.
I'm making 100k and looking at 10 hours.
It'll be an all nighter, assuming they can handle the bandwidth.

    Prepar3D v2.0 Released!

Apparently I was one of the lucky ones . I started the download around 2350 EST and finished at 0120 . A friend of mine suggested I try Internet Download Manager so I did 3 months or so ago and it turned out to be a good investment . I haven't installed 2.0 yet . Between watching Denver losing to The Patriots and the download , it's time for some shut eye .

    Some screenshots..

    Iris F22 Raptor.

Note how all the shading and HDR effects are working on the surface of this jet. (Well done aircraft by the way). All the details glisten, bright sunlit panels are really bright, and shaded zones are very darkened as like in the real world.

Downloading! I'm going to install it this evening to test some of the features. I threw Win 8.1 with clean install few weeks ago and haven't installed older P3D yet, mainly because knowing the new version is just about due and didn't want to do all that installing twice during just few weeks. It's been a nice break from simming, other games have gotten pretty good time after that, but my stick fingers are already itching

I'm getting nice 2,9MB/s download speed and I'm here behind the pond (Finland).

OK dumb noobie question, can you still have both FSX and Prepar3D installed albeit on separate drives and REX and Orbx on both as well?

For the moment, the V2 SDK is only available through the Learning Center UI. A separately available download for the SDK v2 will be online sometime in the hopefully near future.

I 'think' they were at $120+ not just too long ago. That's quite a hike up.

I am planning on buying P3DV2 this afternoon, but have a question. I could download today, (if the servers allow it!) but I am planning on adding two SSD drives to my system soon.

Will I be able RE-download the sim without re-purchasing? Is the sim in a series of files I can store on a HD for installation later?

    Thanks. NC

Yes. Store the installer wherever you like as a backup. When you install your new HD's, uninstall your V2 installation, but first rename the V2 folder to something else (so you can copy/paste things over to the new HD when you are ready), uninstall your V2, then run the installer again and direct it into the new SSD HD.

To install to different HD locations, run the installer, you will see a small Options button. Click that and go to your HD location, click 'create folder' and name it Prepar3D v2. Click ok to continue.

NOTE: You can download the installer as one giant 10 gig download, or in 10 sections, roughly 1 gig each. Just put those into one folder, name it and store them away somewhere; flash drive, etc.

Ok, installed...took more or aproximate 1 hour.

My first impression...IMHO the only good airplanes are the ones from Alabeo, Carenado and Dino's F-35. Others well below standard. Specially the Lockeed C99 and L049. That white tail light , lighthouse sized is terrible.

No time yet to appreciate all the goodies, like the clouds reflections, etc etc.

Looks like they just drop itens everywhere there was an empty ground space.

Tried Lisbon airport and surroundings. You know theres a big river nearby with small islands with nothing on them but agricultural farms and a few houses. With prepar they look like a city...hundreds of houses where should be farmland. Much better, more realistic in FSX, although I know that in prepar I'm missing UTX and GEX.

Good frame rates, love those cockpit shadows

So, I think there's a lot of room to improve.
Hope there will be upgrades for UTX and GEX if compatible, ORBX announced some upgrades. If true, it's good and in great need. Missed my Aerosoft Lisbon Airport...

If we just considered graphics and scenery looks only, will vote FSX as I got it now, with UTX and GEX and some ORBX regions and airports. Will wait for Orbx Global. In all, have to try it more and for sure wait for all the improvements to come.

    Regards
