    Eastern Island, Midway

    Hi all,

With all the great scenery coming from falcon409 and rdaniell, i got the bug to start learning how to do my own.
My one wish for scenery (free or pay) was to have Eastern Island and Sand Island done the way they looked during
The Battle of Midway. With that in mind I set out to find some scenery that i could use as a base to learn and use.
I ended up using a photoreal scenery of Midway Islands done by Diego Garcia. Although the scenery is of modern
Midway, Eastern island hasn't changed all that much since the end of the war. Here are a few pics showing what i
have done so far. Keep in mind this is my interpretation of what it might have looked like.

I don't know if i will release this as i would need to get permission from all authors of the photoreal background
and objects being used, plus this is my test bed in the learning curve. The only thing I made from scratch is the
airport afcad, and is nowhere near finished. The placement of objects was done using Instant Scenery 3 which I
picked up this weekend. This is a great tool and very easy to use.

Nicely done Joe. . . .I also use Instant Scenery3 for object placement. I use SBuilderX for a lot of poly work, landclass changes and so on. . .very handy program. Looks great though. . .keep up the good work.

Looking good! Please let me know if I can help you in anyway. Be advised, however, I only use ADEX.

    Very cool!

I was hoping someone would do Midway and even Wake (to which I have a personal connection).

I've never seen a Brewster Buffalo for FSX which the Marines flew from the Island...with disastrous results. But a couple of PBYs and B-17s would be appropriate and cool in addition to the TBFs/Ms you've got there.

Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

This is a photoreal representation of Wake and it's pretty good IMHO.

    Thanks guys. :salute:
Falcon, I still need to learn how to use SbuilderX. I've had it installed for awhile, just haven't had the time to
really get my hands dirty using it. So far I really like Instant Scenery 3, its got some cool features like the
ability to add roads with moving vehicles.

rdaniell, I might take you up on that offer. I did use ADE9x to make the afcad for eastern Island, but still learning
how to use all its features.

Deacon211, As far as i know there isn't a Brewster for fs9 either. Would be nice to see someone (free/pay) do one
for fsx. Not only did B-17's fly out of Midway but so did a few B-26's Marauders. One of them is pretty famous too,
for flying right down the middle of the flight deck of Akagi to get away from the AA fire coming at them. I did a
repaint for Susie Q on the native FSX B-26 just for this scenery i'm doing, and on one for fs9 version i have in my
    GW3/fs9 install.

I am sure there was a "beefalo" from FS9. I think I remember fiddle fussing with the Flight Dynamics.

I keep remembering Panther posting pics for one for fs9, but that's way before fsx was even announced. I was thinking
it was alphasim's or maybe abacus.

I seen this one, but being that I use DX10 it has texture problems. In my fs9/GW3 install of Midway I do have Buffalo's (CFS2) flying. The pic is from fs9/GW3 and the scenery being used is by John Stinstrom, and the buffalo is a cfs2 a/c with Midway paint.

Cool, I'll need to look it up. My old squadron was the Wake Island Avengers.

Thats looking really nice. It'd be nice to have the Buffalos but it's going to look great in any case!

Glad to see this, the autogen for Midway was pretty far off!
