FSX SAAF Cheetah C. The Atlas Cheetah is a fighter aircraft of the South African Air Force. It is a major upgrade of the Dassault Mirage III. Three different variants were created, the dual-seat Cheetah D, and the single-seat Cheetah E and Cheetah C. The Cheetah's have been retired and was replaced by Saab JAS-39 Gripens. This package contains an entirely new visual model and the airfile has been redone to improve the flight dynamics of the aircraft. It includes one model with the choice of multiple weapon configurations,custom sounds, and panel with aircraft specific gauges, and easy-to-read clickable virtual cockpit. It also features a working radar, camera simulated gauges, a new MFD, new nav instruments, drag chute and sound effects. It also includes a normal and wide screen panel. By Thinus Pretorius.

Wasn't impressed so I uninstalled it. It frequently paused during external viewing. The pilot did not appear in the seat. The HUD wasnt working and many of the buttons in the cockpit did not work.

Sound was pretty soft and the entire sim locked up when I went to afterburner.

Its a great effort for a great aircraft by some one who obviously loves it. However while having certain aspects of modeling that do look good, it is 'imho' unfortunately let down by having a non-animated VC, but I don't want this to sound like I'm pulling it apart.

I have uninstalled my version of the Cheetah (FSX) and downloaded it again from flightsim, installed it and did some test relating to your comments.

In general a few remarks.

I release all my aircraft as freeware because I believe there is still a place for freeware aircraft in fs. I have seen some great freeware models that outshine some payware models. Saying that, I also believe that everybody can make their own decision to use a specific download or not. We all have different requirements, and it is impossible to incorporate all these requirements in one model.

I am not sure when and when not aircraft falls in the category of “native fsx”. The model was designed using FSDS 3.5.2. The software settings provide for aircraft compile options to be set for fs9 or fsx. For this model the settings was for FSX, using makemodel instead of Xtomodel., with the option to use dds textures.

Stuttering/ low frame rates

The aircraft were tested by 5 people with 5 different PC configurations. All reported framerates above 25 in outside, vc and 2d panel view. I run a Intel core 2 quad Q9400 @2.66GhZ with 8G RAM and a Gforce 550 video card. I get framerates of over 25 on my system

Exterior and Virtual Cockpit

In the package I have included a pdf document with some notes on the FSX model and the use of certain functions in the aircraft.

The exterior model is fully animated. It also features a pilot and multiple layouts.

The aircraft opens in FS without pilot, choose pilots in the payload section of FS by entering a value between 100 and 200 (mass of pilot). This will make the pilot visible.

Choose weapons by selecting the weight indicated in the payload section. When you select a weapon, it will also affect the weight of the aircraft

There is an animated camera pod that works in the same manner

The droptanks are always visible at start-up. Change the value of the gallons to “0” to remove it from the model. When you fly and the tanks reach 0, the tanks will automatically drop. The tanks is linked to the airfile and effects the weight of the aircraft

The VC has been designed with MakeMDL.parts.xml and a lot of codes were written specifically for the model. It features clickable switches and working parts Some buttons has a left right mouse function (like the HUD). The VC functions are the same as those on the 2d panel. There are over 50 clickable switches , buttons and other parts in the VC.

I have tested these this morning and everything works on my system

The eyepoint in the aircraft.cfg file is set at:

eyepoint=9.4, 0.0, 1.75. Maybe change the value of 9.4 to 9.5 or 9.6, see if this changes anything)

Afterburner

I have tested the afterburner and it works 100% on my system (also had no problem on the other test systems)

HUD

I have tested the HUD in 2d panel, vc and in the mini panel, all works ok. The HUD has a button switching it on and changing views in it with left right functions
