I've had this phenomenon from quite sometime.
It happens when I start the engine :

The smoke comes, at first, in a squarish way then gets fluid and finally billowing, like real smoke :isadizzy:
Any advice ??

If the problem is smoke when you start the engine, it may be you have automix enabled in FSX when it should not be. If it is the square smoke, I have no idea.

Had a similar thing happen to me with Lights effects. Could be an incompatible effects file? Or even maybe a display driver issue. For me it was the .fx file that the aircraft was trying to use in the aircraft.cfg, was interfering with my REX lights so it turned everything into squares. Weird. I removed the entry with "//" and everythings been working fine....
Perhaps the square phenomenon is until FSX has loaded the effect into memory?
