    Wing tip shadows.

Can anyone help please, I have started to get strange shadows on upper wing surfaces (see photo below)
I don't know why and seem to remember getting rid of them with a fix in the past, but I'm having a senior moment and can't remember how or what is causing it.

Might be a broken (say wrongly formatted) texture (spec or bump map).

Check the format with Imagetool. DXT5 should do it.

i occasionally get the odd shadows - i find changing the time of day can remove the problem

Forgot to mention that if you zoom in it goes away, zoom out and back it comes, also shows on vertical rudder surfaces.

I think it most be something to do with viewpoint or view radius, just can't remember.

This is the same flight different position and no shadows.

Thanks for your help and advise.

I get those when the aircraft shadows are ticked on and especially when zooming closer gets worse. I just untick aircraft shadows.

Just tried that Tufun and it does remove the shadows, still can't understand why when ticked "Aircraft casts shadows on itself" they appear on top of the wing.

Something must have got corrupted , well it is FSX and we all know it has a mind of it's own!!!

I notice it does this at certain angles the aircraft is to the sun also.

That's just the same on mine, it is linked to the angle to the sun, as I pan round they change, most odd!

You have it on the wing tip, elevator and also on the lefthand rudder in your first pic, in positions not related to each other
as an ordinary shadow would be from a single light source such as the Sun. Mine is the same.

I've had these also. I guess it is akin to those "blasted" shadows that appear to "slide down" the aircraft while in the "Fly-by" mode. I even went into the main "Cameras" cfg. and edited that to put my view "on the other side" of the aircraft, alas, that did not work...still there...
if anyone would like to try...:tgun2:

I had that on the Thorp while I was building it. I also discovered it happened on the Edge 3000. I found that I could fix it by adjusting the radius of the model using RADItor.

Robert, which way did you edit, greater or lesser radius?

Roger, I brought it out a bit. I do recall it was an oddball number, like 3.5789346347826. I made it 4.

Thanks...I've used Arno's utility a few times with models that enter a distance away but this a new use:ernae:

Thanks a bunch... made the adjustments and works fine. Did a 360 around the aircraft and found no anomalies.

A BIG Thank you Robert, that's fixed it.

I found the original radius set at 5.947622776031 metres and increased it by 1 to 6.947622776031 but still got a small shadow on the tail fins.
Raised it to 7.947622776031 and now works o.k. I know this was the fix I used before ands I have other aircraft that need the same treatment.

Roger what radius have you set?
Tufun what have you set yours to?

Thanks to you all for your help.

    Bruce.

Just curious if these may be caused by an inner wing surface, inverted polys, or the like.

I don't think so...I was going nuts looking for stuff like that during the Thorp build as I was convinced that it was something I did! It was not until I decided to look at other planes that I started to figure it out, and in fact I think I found the fix by accident after using RADItor to fix the view distance as my Thorp was up close and personal in the preview window.

    Robert

Thanks Tufun, 7 seems to be the lucky number.
