Old Shaky! First time I ever flew was on one of these from Dobbins AFB to McChord AFB. It was supposed to be a non-stop 10 hour flight. However, due to magneto problems on #3 of our sister ship (2 planes carrying the newly formed 159th Aviation Co (SA) to Ft Lewis, Wa to meet our new aircraft - the OV-1 Mohawk) we made an unscheduled stop at McConnell AFB for repairs. For 4 hours that day I stood on the transient ramp and watched F-105s practice T/O and landings. What a sight! 15 hours after leaving Atlanta, we arrived McChord AFB.
That same flight of 2 C-124s picked up our sister company, the 158th, who had been at Ft Lewis for 2 weeks already, for the return trip back to Dobbins. The same aircraft that had the magneto problems this time lost 2 engines just after crossing the Sierra Nevada and had to make an emergency landing at one of the satelite fields north of Luke AFB. Not manned and no facilities, they spent the night there and were picked up the next day by another C-124 that brought the Dobbins engine shop and 2 P&W R-4360s!
Glad I wasn't on that trip!
Can't wait to see more.
Cheers,
Duckie

I generally don't fly many planes with more than 2 engines....not really into the big birds...but a C-124 with a VC....that I will fly! There are a few of the older military cargo planes that I like....C-82, C-119, C-130, C-133, C-124....so I am looking forward to this bird.

Yes me too. Do we have an ETA on this beautiful beast?

The C-124 is a much welcomed addition.
I believe that Jens also has a Junkers G 38 in the pipeline.
I was just thinking about this plane...and the need for a good R-4360 sound pack. I did one...but it isn't all that good. I have hunted high and low for good video/audio of the R-4360 to work with to develop a sound pack...and there is very very very little out there.

I will most likely have another go at creating a R-4360 sound pack....I found a couple videos of the F2G Corsair at various RPM levels...not good enough to use as audio sources..but good enough to listen to and use as a guide as I tweak an existing sound pack to be a R-4360 pack.
