    ALPHA PBM Mariner for FSX-P3D.zip

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category P3D / P4D Add-Ons - Military aircraft

Description: FSX/P3D conversion of the Alphasim/Virtavia FS9 PBM Mariner

The models have been converted to native FSX format.

The plane has been tested in both FSX and P3Dv5.4 so should work OK in all version of FSX and P3D up to v5.4.

    I don't own P3Dv6 so that isn't tested.

    PBM -3 / PBM-5 ALHASIM mods

The models look great and fly well in P3D4.5.

However my -3 model shows no flaps at all (missing) and no control surfaces move. The -5 model is fine in all respects

    Sorry about that Mike
I guess I didn't test them thoroughly enough.
It was just the external model for one of the -3 models and the VC for all 3 of them and also the VC model for the Dutch -5 that where affected.
Fortunately all I had to do was resave the problem models and they work correctly now.

I've just uploaded a fix for them that should show up in the library soon.

    Revised contact points and smoke.

Hey, thank you for doing this, the Swift and the Draaken!! I tried to get my Mariner to get the bomb bay door's animation to work in MCX a while back. I succeeded, but my glass went opaque! Glad you were able to fix it properly (And share it!!) It also looks great in FSX!!!
I hope you don't mind but I tweaked the contact points (and added one more to the hull) so the Mariner settles down in the water at approximately the waterline with one or the other tip floats also resting in the water while still behaving itself when beaching (or landing on a runway in the -5A's case). I also revised the smoke so the water spray happens closer to the fuselage and right around the step. (There might be a freeware gauge to turn it on or off as the plane contacts and leaves the water. As it is I might use the one from Virtavia's Marlin on the Mariner and see if I can get it to work on this one. I wouldn't be able to share the gauge though, just the info if it works or not. If it does, I'll post and others can make the change if they have the Marlin.)
Oh, something's going on with the flaps on the PBM-3 models. They're packed under the wing and in the middle of the fuselage. I checked the flaps section of the aircraft.cfg files and the numbers match between the -3 and the -5 so it's not happening there.

For those who would like to try the new contact points and smoke (water spray) locations, just replace these sections in your aircraft.cfg file.

Sure Josh any further tweaks is cool with me.

The problem with the flaps was already spotted and I've released a patch that's available in the library now.

    Good Morning,

I was trying the Mariner in P3Dv4 this morning but am unable to take off. My speed is stuck around 90knots at full throttle. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks,

    Rob

I only have this issue with the Mariner in P3Dv4 when I'm trying to take off from the water. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks,

    Rob

I've been doing some testing my end and I can take off OK on water in both the 3D and 5A.
It does take a bit of a long run but it will do it.
My testing was done in P3Dv5.4 so I don't know if that's a factor the airfile and the aircraft.cfg numbers haven't been change at all from the original FS9 version.
Maybe someone else who's good at tweaking the numbers could improve them but I opted to leave them alone as I don't know what I'm doing in that department.

One thing my end is I have A2A's Accu-Feel installed, if the profile for the Mariner is left stock it will struggle to get over 90, 95 before taking off so I have the Wave Drag set to 25 instead of the stock 50 and it easily gets up to 100 knots with the flaps at 50% after a bit of a run.

Well I feel kind of dumb. I got it sorted out. It was definitely a senior moment. I had forgotten to extend my flaps upon take off. Always check the simple things first. Thanks again for the model conversion and answering my post.

    All is well,

    Rob
