    IJN Solomons Campaign Uploaded

    Hey Guys,

I just uploaded the next part of my series of campaigns for the IJN fighters over the Solomons. It contains 45 missions in which you get to fly the A6M3 Model 32 and Model 22 Zeros against a variety of American and New Zealand fighters and bombers.
Starting in December 1942 and going until August of 1943, you will cover the Japanese evacuation of Guadalcanal, defend the airfields at Munda, Vila and on southern Bougainville against Allied air raids, escort bombers on the last strikes against Guadalcanal, and finally try to stop the Allied advance to the New Georgia island group. In between yoou will also be involved in the Battle of the Bismarck Sea.
I started working on this while I was still doing the floatplane missions, therefore the short time interval since releas of the previous part.
Next will be the invasion of Bougainville and the siege of Rabaul, but I haven´t started work on this yet, so it will be some time until it will be ready. I also might do something different for a change before I continue with this project.

Great to have a view from the "Enemy" side, puts a different spin on the historical narrative...

    IJN Solomons Campaign

A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Campaigns Add-Ons

Description: This is Part 3 of my campaign series covering the fighter operations of the IJN Air Force over the Solomon Islands from 1942 to 1944.
It picks up where the Guadalcanal campaign ends, in November 1942 after the last failed attempt by the Japanese to reinforce their troops on Guadalcanal and defeat the Americans there
It ends in August 1943, with the Americans firmly established on New Georgia and basically on the doorstep of southern Bougainville.
You fly the A6M3 Zero against a variety of Allied fighters and bombers.

Nice work Skylane, and indeed fast work. Many thanks for this.

Still making my way through your Rufe campaign, but will definitely want to carry on in to 1943, your campaigns have been excellent.

The period of this campaign has not been covered from the Japanese side before to my knowledge. I've flown many campaigns from the Japanese side, but none I can think of when they were on their heels and outmatched by Allied forces. One or two missions I can think of, but not many.

I will find out for myself soon enough, but curious if there is an "Operation Vengeance" mission in there.

    Skylane,

Great to see someone else is doing missions in the Solomons.

    Keep up the great work.

My son was thinking of doing a N1K2J_GEORGE campaign in defense of Japan, but he lost the site he going to use for it.

    Hiede,

There's a very good book about the 343 Kokutai and the N1K2, Genda's Blade by Henry Sakaida and Koji Takaki. I got it from Amazon, it is fascinating reading and contains lots of information from which one could build a nice CFS2 campaign.
Actually it is somewhere on my list of things to do, but I haven't found the time to look at it yet. ..

    files missing?

    Hi Skylane,

thank you for this interesting campaing. I have a question, regarding the mz-Ki43-1k 11 Sentai DEC42.
You write in your readme that the folder for this plane contains Aircraft- and DP files, but I did not find any.

    Hi Norbert,
Sorry, that was a mistake from me, and it happened by copy-pasting and not paying attention.
Actually, the folder should be empty, and you need to copy fom the skinpack the folders Model, Panel and Texture.Taniguchi_DEC42, as well as the Air- and DP files into this folder. The correct Aircraft file is inside the texture folder, you need to copy this into the new Aircraft. I provided a link to a sound in the readme, which you also need for the plane to work. The whole new Aircraft goes into your CHS2 Aircraft folder.

I attach an updated Readme PDF, may I ask the Admins if they could replace the Readme in the Campaign download library with this one? Thanks.
I hope I didn´t make any more mistakes, if more do turn up, please speak up, I´ll try to fix them as quickly as I can.

Flew the "Operation Vengeance " mission yesterday, all in real time. Grueling but fun. Simply no way to save Yamamoto (or, at least, I lack the skills), the P-38's are just too many and too tough. It was a well planned mission, Yamamoto would have needed 20 escorting fighters, and even then it would have been tough to keep them off the Betty's.

Was very cool to fly this from the other side, many thanks for what has been a great campaign so far!

I don’t know what Betty,s it’s using but the stock gun configuration makes the Betty’s kinda mean like without escort fighters. It always starts out good then your hit then you notice the Betty’s starting to pull away from you. You give her some gas if your not already pegged but they now out of gun range. You leave the cockpi View and notice your airplane is now a glider nose shot off. That’s all folks until next time. Wish I could play my PC is in Davy Jones locker. Had an appointment with OcenGate to go get it but just got a cancellation notice saying due to sub implosion we can no longer assist customers at this time please check back later. Whatever that means. Went to the doctor a couple days back had blood running out my left ear. Been draining a few months now but not blood. I was getting ready for work and found out my ear was bleeding. Got blood all over my clothes said heck I got to go see the ole doc. Blood pressure registered at 197/117. Gave me some antibiotics and blood pressure pills at the urgent care center. Went to the family doctor today said my eardrum was ruptured. I kinda knew that because the urgent care gave me drops to put down my ears and it went down sure enough right smack down my throat. Tasted like nail polish remover or something terrible. EKG had a slight abnormality. Guess it’s my time to go beats me but without a compooper I can’t even play a game. Guess I’ll kill on over be done with it but I’m to hungry now I might have to eat a bite then take a nap then play a game on my phone then pickup the kids and we’ll no time to kill over guns I’ll have to stay awhile it appears.

In the vast Pacific skies, soaring high,
Where dreams take flight and heroes defy.
    Microsoft’s Combat Flight Simulator 2,
A world of war, where courage rings true.

The Pacific Theater unfolds its grand stage,
Where brave pilots write their daring page.
From Pearl Harbor’s tragic and fateful morn,
To fierce dogfights, where legends are born.

The sun-kissed waves and azure blue,
A backdrop where battles rage and brew.
Wings of steel carve through the air,
As pilots navigate with skill and flair.

    Majestic aircraft with engines’ roar,
Painting trails of valor like never before.
With each maneuver, a symphony unfolds,
As players chase victory, brave and bold.

    From the cockpit’s embrace, a pilot’s view,
The sky’s canvas becomes a world anew.
    Woven with strategy, camaraderie strong,
In the realm of Microsoft’s immersive song.

Through clouds and storms, the spirit’s fire,
    Shining bright, igniting fierce desire.
The bond of squadron, a brotherhood’s tie,
Together they soar, reaching for the sky.

Oh, Combat Flight Simulator, Pacific Theater grand,
A tapestry of courage, across the ocean spanned.
In virtual skies, where dreams come alive,
    Microsoft’s creation, forever we’ll thrive.

Last Will and Testament of Death Wind

I, Death Wind, being of sound mind and acknowledging the fragility of life, hereby declare this as my final will and testament. I entrust the following possessions and wishes to the esteemed Thai Bikini Team:

    1. My beloved three-legged, malnourished, and flea-infested dog shall find solace and care under the watchful eyes of the Thai Bikini Team. May they provide the creature with love, nourishment, and a comfortable life.
    2. My humble house, crafted from Asian Buffalo dung, shall be bequeathed to the Thai Bikini Team. May they find value and purpose in this unique abode, ensuring its preservation as a symbol of resilience and resourcefulness.
    3. My cherished beer bottle collection, a testament to memorable moments, shall be handed down to the Thai Bikini Team. May they toast to life’s joys and create new memories while raising a glass in celebration.
    4. The Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2 PC game, a source of thrilling adventures, shall be bestowed upon the Thai Bikini Team. May they conquer virtual skies, forging bonds of camaraderie and experiencing the joy of triumph.
    5. My Honda Beat scooter, though bearing a bent front rim, shall become the Thai Bikini Team’s vehicle of exploration and freedom. May it carry them on exciting journeys, embracing the winds of adventure.
    6. Lastly, my meager wallet containing 10 baht shall be gifted to the Thai Bikini Team. May it serve as a reminder that even small treasures can hold value, and that prosperity is not solely measured in material wealth.

In witness thereof, I affix my signature and seal this testament, affirming the distribution of my possessions to the Thai Bikini Team upon my passing. May my wishes be fulfilled with grace and gratitude.

Thanks for the nice comment, I'm happy to see you're having fun! 🙂
Don't worry about your skills, I've set up the mission in such a way that history can't be changed.

I find it quite challenging to build missions for the losing side, and find the right balance of chance for success for the player, and following history. But that's what I enjoy about mission building.

Real life has caught up with me, so I haven't started with Part 3 yet, but it will definitely come — at some point.

I wondered as I was flying the mission if it was possible to change history and drive off the Lightnings before both G4M's go down. I did manage to knock one down with some nice shooting as he was going after the 2nd Betty. Once both bombers were down, it was time to get out of there, I made it safely to land at Kahili.

Do my wingman have lower skills in the new campaign? I didn't get much help from the other zeros. This could also be a touch of realism, as the IJN had taken heavy losses in experienced pilots in recent months.

I have enjoyed the campaign very much, looking forward to your next work.
