    Exclamation Rhumbaflappy's LOD7 meshes

Since several years I use rhumbaflappy's LOD7 mesh files with FS9. In some cases they creates elevated lakes and cliffs. In other cases those files flatten areas and adjust this way incorrect default environment. In order to use only some specific files, I should know which files cover which part of the world. Does anyone knows a list or a chart depicting these informations? Thanks for any advice.

    Bernard,

    I use the LOD9 (70m mesh) from here: https://simviation.com/1/fs2004terrainmesh

It works well for the places I've been to, though some of the add-on scenery is a little off in places. Las Vegas, for example. The strip and all the area near Freemont Street in the 1959/1962 scenery has places burried or floating, but overall it's a good set to chose the area you want from.

For the US I would suggest the now-free LOD10 (30m mesh) from FSGenesis on Flightsim. You can also look for Justin Thyme (sp?) who loaded them a while back.

With these two sets and a few from Yohan Baptiste and another author I can't remember, I now have my FS9 set up almost like FSX!

Granted, texture improvement also helps as well, but that's dependant on ones taste.

Like someone said a while back, "it's what you like and how you like to enjoy it."

Go to Rhumbas site & use the world map tool?

Jorge, thanks for your advices. I have tried SRTM file too. As shown in following comparaisons there are tremendous landscape differences. The chosen place is Bata in Equatorial Guinea. Not important, but significative.

    The said area by default

    with rhumbafloppy's LOD7

and with Stephen Rothlisberger's STM (Simviation)

BTW, I already tried these SRTM files in other areas some years ago and wasn't satisfied.

Based on these comparaisons, the LOD7 version is the more suitable one. But these meshes create other issues elesewhere, like the elevated lakes near Naivaisha in Kenya.

Whereas and curiously the lakes are shwon correctly by default

    and with SRTM

    Really crazy!

So my intention is to use LOD7 files in areas which are misshaped by default. Thanks to UncleTgt I found the map of rhumbafloppy's LOD7 files. Unfortunatley there are no references to the ninety-two files. Due to this lack, I have no other choice than to deactivate and reactivate each file until I have found the right file ...

    Thanks anyway for your help.

What about using Jim Keirs LWMviewer to help recognise which file(s) you need?http://www.jimkeir.co.uk/FlightSim/LWMViewer.html
And if the area you want was a WW2 combat zone, perhaps the LOD8 mesh would give better results?

I have my CFS2 set up using all Rhumbas mesh, with LOD 7 & 8 mesh stacked in the scenery cfg. The LOD 7 mesh covers those areas not fought over during WW2 - when I move into an area covered by LOD 8 mesh, you do notice a difference in terrain mesh detail... I guess FS9 operates in a similar way.
