    Isn't This Beautiful

I have mentioned before about the beautiful desk calendar I got for Christmas from my daughter. Here is another one and this IS available for FSX and P3D (probably works in P3D V4 too) the de Havilland D.H. 89. According to my calendar it was first flown on April 17, 1934 it was manufactured in many different civilian and military versions. It was a rugged, serviceable and versitle eight-to-ten seat 150 mph transport.

Here is the link I found at Flyaway Simulation. It features fully working VC with smooth gauges. Sixteen paint schemes included. Complete aircraft, no other files needed. Includes custom panel and FX. By Dave Garwood and CBFS design team. I looked in Google for other sources but they only had other repaints for it which are probably part of the 16 repaints here. Be sure to CAREFULLY read the README about the name in the Title in the aircraft.cfg and not complain that it doesn't work. I usually don't read them and just rush right in but there is a caution in this one not to be ignored.

I'm downloading it right now and will give a full report later.

It is in the Library here, along with a few tasty repaints.

I loved Dave's DH.89 in FS2004, but the FSX version takes it to another level. Mr Garwood is a true master of these arts, I would doff my hat to him if I had one. Thanks Dave.

I think there is still one based at Duxford that you can book a flight on.

    Patience

I just finished the download but had to restart it twice. I use the free download area and am not a subscriber. I looked everywhere I could think of beside Flyaway Sim to get a faster download and it is nowhere else I found. From what I hear it's worth the trouble to download it.

I support SOH but am not a paid subscriber anywhere else. I don't think that is a bad thing to do if you can to support them. I had a few websites in the past and I have to pay each month to have my Christian Radio Station on the air so as the admin here know, airtime or bandwidth on websites is expensive. If you can afford it and are led to help out the sites that give us stuff for free with no catches it's good to do. That's my tuppence or two cents.

    There sure is.
I took a flight in it at one of their air shows a few years back. It was a very fun if short flight, just one circuit of the airfield with a full load of passengers.

    Airports

For a flavor of the time, I was able to find airports in England and France of the 1930's to upload and do some flights to and from.

The Rapide by Dave Garwood and CBFS team has always been available at the Classic British Flight Sim site. However the site is not really working anymore, but Dave's model is pretty much available at every large Flightsim site:

In the library here at Sim-Outhouse : http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforum...tid=34&id=9656

    At Flightsim.com : https://www.flightsim.com/files/file...dragon-rapide/

    At Avsim.net : https://library.avsim.net/search.php...sxac&Go=Search

    At Simviation : https://simviation.com/1/search?subm...ackage&x=0&y=0

And when you want to book your flight:

It is amazing how many are still around considering their age and the wartime service they saw. There are over 20 survivors, 9 of them being airworthy (7 in the UK!!) & a couple more under restoration to fly. I've seen them flying many times at Old Warden and at Duxford, never managed a flight sadly.

You can book a flight through Virgin experiences. £259 from Duxford, down to London and back and a visit to the museum.

This is great information thank you for sharing it here. I looked but didn't find these. This is great! I was disappointed that the Classic British Flightsim site was down. They still had some scenery in a Google search that I wanted to download though I found Croyden, Brookfield and Herndon at Avsim to install as well as the Channel Islands and Le Bourget in 1930s. I created the Empire Airways for the DC3 from an Hercule Poirot episode and if my old memory serves me I believe that this was in one of the episodes too. i did a library search at every site and none of them showed it up so I must not have been using the right words to search. I would have much preferred to use one of the quicker download sites. What scenery downloads do I need to install to get the full flavor of one of the Classic-Wings Dragon-Rapide Flights. ORBX England? I own that one!

There's the IWM Duxford scenery which works well, and has an airshow option.

Not the "Road Movies-Bing and Bob" am I old or what LOL! but the memories of every Poirot which I have enjoyed and not paid close enough attention to the aircraft with the exception of the C47/DC3 which I recognized and have recreated here. I have every one from uTube on DVD to enjoy again and again because youtube deletes frequently and then unless you buy them they are gone forever. I didn't know that the Dragon Rapide was the subject of a thread a couple years ago. Do you think that the Expeditor says Empire Airways too, can't tell only see AIRWAYS. I may dig out that DVD and see if more frames might show the full name and do a repaint for IT and share it.

Postscript: I just fast-forwarded the full episode of The Adventure Of The Western Star and the Expeditor is stenciled IMPERIAL AIRWAYS which was a real airline however as far as I can tell did NOT use the Expeditor but the Armstrong-Whitworth AW154 Argosy in its service between London/Croydon and the continent. I didn't find any of these in existence any more so perhaps that is why the Expeditor was used instead.

Today's Beautiful Bird From The Calendar

The Republic Seabee...I have done much Google searching and there are two available versions of this: KCFS Republic Seabee (payware) at Aerosoft; Simflight and maybe more for about $24.00USD or 20 Euros. There is an update for it at Flightsim and Perfect Flight to correct some things and the freeware from Premier Aircraft Design complete with base model from Flyaway Simulation. It was also at Flightsim.com but not totally complete package. I opted to use Flyaway Simulation again as yesterday. There is also a "Superbee" that is an updated version with 3 bladed Hartzell prop etc. again at Flyaway sim. The KCFS was created back in 2012 as the PAD so I am going to play with the freeware and save my dollars in this case. As of yesterday I look forward to a lot of comments from those who have either or both in the hanger. I just uploaded this to my P3D V4.5 and though it appears, it does not work so there must be some incompatible gauges like from FS2002 since it is so old. KCFS in a post I saw said they had created a separate installer for P33D and I am assuming that is V4 though I don't know about V5. The Dragon Rapide works fine in P3D so must be all XML gauges or at least FSX gauges. I was able to get the Croydon 1930 scenery to work nice in FSX but it does not work in V4.5 as neither did Brookfield or Herndon from a similar download from yesterday. And that's my work for today.

I did a repaint of the plane used in the Poirot episode. I thought I sent it up to SOH?

There are a lot of repaints listed a FS2004 and CFS2 but none for FSX or of this beautiful repaint. Would you please submit it? I would really like to add it to my Poirot Aircraft Collection.

    Yesterday and today Sunday

The airplane of the day(s) is the Curtiss P-40. You can get it for free over at A2A in the FSX and P3D V4 Accusim versions. Just go to A2A then store and then proper sim and you will see $0.00 as the price. Put the one(s) you want in the cart and checkout. There are a lot of repaints for them that have been uploaded when it was still payware that work. Everyone is familiar with the Sharkmouth nose but I like different one's like the 80th FG Screamin Banshees http://www.mikesrepaints.com/p40.html

This is a nice thread. I look forward to your coming entries.

The free P-40 also is available at Orbx for P3D4 and v5. https://orbxdirect.com/freeware

    KCFS Repubic SeaBee

I have this and reworked some stuff for P34 - works well.

When I was much younger (teenager), a local grass strip in Maine had one. The Franklin engine was loud as hell and the plane had a cruise speed like a blimp. However, I loved watching it anyway.

A couple years ago I found the 80th FG and created a virtual group when A2A came out with this. I also had freeware P40s for guys who did not want to have to spend for payware. The squadron members of the 3 real 80th FG squadrons had different banshee skulls on their aircraft. There was also 459th Fighter Squadron P-38 Lightning and the Geronimo II repaint by Jan Kees Blom at Avsim for Milviz P-38L. The Burma Banshees website https://www.burmabanshees.com/ has tons of interesting info on this forgotten theatre.

    The Fairey Swordfish

Well, today, March 6th highlights the Fairey Swordfish. You can still download it for free from the Bravo Zulu blog now that Flying Stations who created it is now gone. A big thumbs up to Bravo Zulu for saving this and all the other aircraft AND aircraft carriers from extinction. An added bonus for you period flat top flyers is the "PADDLES" gauge which CAN be added to other pre-FLOLS carrier aircraft if you know how to do it. I added it to the Aeroplane Heaven F3F Fighter flying on and off early pre-WWII Enterprise and also the Hornet and Yorktown squadrons. A really lot of fun. A note though to use it you HAVE to keep the Swordfish in your hanger even if you don't fly it. Here it is and the link to find it at Bravo Zulu's blog. I just downloaded and installed it to my desktop which is the way to go. Manually place the files where you want them according to the folders. The LSO is in the panel folder. Have a lot of fun with this iconic aircraft. You can download it from the link below:

https://bravozulu.blog/ This is the up to date blog including what they are up to for MSFS and P3D. So glad they did not stop at just FS9/FSX. Page down to the freeware for the Swordfish download. You can also download HMS Victorious to recreate the Fleet Air Arm 825 Squadron and see if you can locate and sink Bismarck.
    https://www.flightsim.com/files/file...k-and-tirpitz/

Alphasim also created a really nice Swordfish package for FS2002/FS2004/CFS2. You can find it at Flightsim.com, Sinviation and the Virtavia freeware sites. Unfortunately it is not compatible with any sims beyond FS9. The model doesn't work properly and 3/4 of the gauges are FS98 gauges. If you are still flying FS9 you may want to try it out anyway. Alphasim had a very nice package for it "back in the day".

I just installed and tried out the Flying Stations Swordfish in P3D V4.5 and it works perfectly. All gauges are there no stuttering and now I just have to figure out how to do carrier ops in P3D V4.5. Any help would be most appreciated.

    Another Interesting Addon

Today March 7th the calendar features the Vought F4U-7 Corsair that was supplied to the French Aeronavale for use in Indochina. It is the last of the Corsair line the final model, produced in December 1952 at the Dallas Texas plant ending a decade of production. I found the exact model and repaint for FSX Acceleration which I imagine should work in P3D all versions as well (don't know about V5). The author is Chris Evans. Here is the photo and also the link.https://www.fs-freeware.net/download...-f4u-7-corsair I could not find this exact model and repaint anywhere else. Really nice weathering!

For the complete history of the French Aeronavale in Indochina you might like to visit the "Bent wing bird site: https://www.jdsf4u.be/type-of-plane-f4u

I also did a search and found that Mark Rooks created scenery for FS2004 for Indochina in 1962 with backdated AFCADS and proper marking of the runways and taxiways for the included airports that may work in FSX as well though beyond P3DV3 I'm not sure. Check it out with a Google search if you're interested. I'm not going to find ALL the links for you that would take away all the challenge and fun. LOL!!! You can find both of the French Aircraft Carriers that embarked the F4U-7 at the royal French Navy Site that has the fantastic TACAN up to date here: http://royalefrenchnavy.restauravia.fr/RFN-Navires.htm

    Highlighting Today

I was privileged last year to be a part of the beta team for Golden Age Simulations testing today's "beautiful bird" The Stearman Speedmail. The entire G.A.S. team never fail to come up with unique aircraft, as unique as this calendar and the attention to detail is just superb. Right down to cranking the engine to start where it was done that way. They are all compatible with FSX, FSX(SE) and P3D and priced really reasonably. In addition when each one has been released there was a discount here offered to SOH members before being released to the rest of the flightsim community. Here is a shot of the Stearman Speedmail that I just loaded into P3D V4.5 which I did not have last January 2022 when I was on the beta test team. It's even more beautiful. This is taken at my custom 60J Airport which I just updated with the fence and signs also added this year at the REAL airport.

    The North American B-25 Mitchell

There are a few B-25's available to download payware and freeware. The 91st Bomb Group (Virtual) recreates the famous Dolittle Raid just after WWII started for the United States every year which I have flown with them a few years ago when I was an active member. The first B-25 I ever owned was the MAAM-Sim "Briefing Time" for FS9. It is also available now in their store for FSX. I don't know if anyone has tried it in P3D any version though it will probably fly well in V1-2-3. There is also a freeware version created by Mike Stone and updated by Bob Chilico available at Flightsim.com and FS2000 but it is a simple version with no VC though updated to use in FSX. I do not know of any for Prepar3d V4 or certainly V5. The photo below was submitted to MAAM for their photo contest in 2006 and was the Grand Prize Winner Gunnar van der Meeren (aka skyhawk) Bergen, Norway

MAAM sim did a beautiful job of recreating this famous bomber that fought in all theatres in WII considering the technology back in 2005 and the computers we used then. Just imagine what a beautiful job someone could do now with all the new things that can be done in P3D and TacPack with it.

    Today March 11

Today, I hope you enjoy these as much as I do sharing them, is the Curtiss Commando C-46. It was the largest and heaviest twin-engine aircraft to see service with the USAAF in World War II. It also was used by many airlines after the war. If you want to fly this in your sim, you have two choices: payware, Just Flight's C-46 package for FSX and P3D includes 19 paint schemes and provides military, cargo and civilian passenger variants of this classic cargo/transport aircraft with both military and civilian cockpit configurations which can be found in their store as well as other online vendors.

If you want an excellent freeware FS2004/FSX by Libardo Guzman, Tom Gibson and Greg Pepper, the complete package and adds can be found on this page of Simviation:
    https://simviation.com/fsxvintage7.htm
