New PC Build: Current MSFS is on it's own drive.

Hi guys, I'm building a new PC and in my old PC, I have MSFS on it's own drive and I'm just going to move the drive over to the new PC. Of course, after the main drive has been booted and setup first. Will I have to re-install all of flight sim? I'm trying to figure out how it will register on the new PC. I know I'll have to rename the current community folder and let it build a new one. I'm just trying to make the move as painless as possible. Any tips? Thanks, Ken

Hey Ken! I've done just this!

What I would suggest doing is creating a folder on the drive that you're moving called something like "FlightSim", and then moving your Official and Community folders into that.

Then, move the drive to the new PC, and reinstall MSFS. When it gets to the part where it launches the sim and wants to download the rest of the data, change the folder to point to D:\FlightSim (or wherever you copied Community and Official) and it will pick up the Official folder and it won't have to re-download all of that.

And your settings should be stored in the cloud, so those will transfer.

To be really safe, I'd actually rename Community to something like "Community.temp" before installing, and create an empty Community folder. Then, after you go through the install process, quit the sim, delete the empty Community folder, and rename the .temp file back to Community. That's just extra safety in case any of your add-ons might affect the install.

Thanks! I'll do that. I can't wait to be able to crank the detail up. Even at medium settings I get stutters with my current PC when flying over the photo real areas. This is the new build; (Since I'm using Firefox, there won't be page breaks. I've always had that problem here with Firefox). You don't even need to make a fake Community folder. When I do updates, I just move mine to the desktop, then when the sim launches, a new empty replacement pops into existence to replace mine.

True. Then just delete the empty one and rename your real one.
