    Icon9 F-22' first kill !

First of all, I'm just stirring the pot!
    I mean no offense!
This post is mainly a tribute to my twin brother (deceased 1956-2019) who worked at Lockheed Martin, Marietta, Georgia.

The first air-to-air kill for the "Air Dominance" fighter F-22 Raptor was a balloon! Click image for larger version.

I can see it now, (in the future) a question...."what was the mighty F-22 Raptor's first air-to-air kill back in 2023"... think Trivial Pursuit game Click image for larger version.

No one needs to read any further if you don't want to.
Now the real-life connection to all of this:

I can remember having conversations with my brother stating that. "... you mean we are going to defend all four corners of the continental U.S., and our other "interest", with the Ruskies & China coming over the poles with only 170-180 of those damn things .... it better have a kill ratio of 1000:1!

Well, now we can scratch 1!

My brother was stationed at Luke AFB in the mid to late 70's. He always wanted to be the boom operator on the KC's, but Uncle Sam said he was too color blind for that job "...so they made me a pop-rivet man..."[ Airframe Specialist] which got him sent out to Luke AFB, working on F-15's. and the connection to the above article.

Now comes the 1980's and my brother gets his first employment at Lockheed Martin, Marietta, Georgia working on the refit of the center wing box of the C-5B: 1985–1989.He leaves after that program ended and pursued jobs in aviation elsewhere.

The mid 1990's arrive and he returns to Lockheed Martin, Marietta, Georgia for the second and final time hoping to get into the F-22 production program which ran from 1996–2011. Nope, we are all full up on that one, but we can put you over on the P-3 Orion wing redesign (something to do with skate angles). Well, he did for a few years and as the F-22 program was winding down they moved him over to the C-130J production line. Click image for larger version.

This is a picture [from the internet], of his workstation.

He and all of the fellas at the "plant" said that the F-16 could out turn the ol' Raggedy Raptor any day of the week! Who knows?

It's the 2010's and they move him to the Marietta center wing assembly operation of the F-35.

Now comes the Aortic Valve surgery in 2019 .... 2 months ....

He would have been laughing his arse off ... a damn balloon!

I heard that the callsigns were "Frank One" and "Frank Two" in honour of the US balloon buster Frank Luke,
Rats - why won't anything work properly first time?

Well, now we can scratch 1!

    ... scratch 2

I've even seen photoshop edits to the external cockpit with the symbology of a balloon as an victory kill marking.
So, I guess we are going to have "Breaking News" every week now!
    Out of control I say.

Oh, the satire, I was just fooling around when I wrote this.

I bet the Candian Arrow could have shot it down!
Oh, we sold them the F-101 Voodoo instead .... then the F-18. I wonder if that aircraft could have done the job?

    Ok, Mr. forum moderator.

OK, just one more jab at it!

    ... scratch 2

    ... scratch 3

    The "
Raggedy Raptor" will prove that 1000:1 kill ratio soon at this rate

We will soon need a bunch of texture artists working to keep up with all the nice balloons that have to be added to the Raptor

And a lowly, old F-16 shot down a fourth object over Lake Huron.
My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

    Good grief Charlie Brown!

I saw the "Breaking News" about it yesterday and I was not going to let it upset my day. I had pulled out my old DVD of, THE ARROW THE RIGHT STUFF, THE WRONG TIME 1997, with Dan Aykroyd then I was running around getting stuff for the Super Bowl game.

Hey maybe my avatar (Bill Campbell is the creator of the Weird-ohs) "FlameOut" could have taken on the job?

Look, he already has a little red balloon!

... and, (@dhasdell) Snoopy up there could be the wingman.

I’ve popped many a balloon but I didn’t post it because everyone else has too. I’ve killed a few flies which is better as they can get away from you but I suppose most managed to get a couple themselves. I’ve killed deer, turkey, squirrels but several people have. The F22 is a good plane they know that but a balloon counting as a first kill can’t be true. I’m sure they shot many a target with the F 22 some probably more challenging to hit than a ultra obese balloon. Jet vs Balloon who wins. That’s like a man knocking out a two year old and shouting he’s a champion instead of the fool he really is. Sorry I like the F22 but it hasn’t killed anything yet in my book. China sends four more over and let the same guy shoot ‘em I guess he’ll be the Ace of Balloons.
