WHEW!! Finally got it to a point I can work with it. Still very much a work in progress. Still adjusting the Alpha and the Spec files. Most all of the "D" models were painted silver. I have yet to be able to find photos of period natural metal aircraft. But we really are making progress and now know the light at the end of this tunnel is not a train! A 3,000 piece jigsaw puzzle is nothing compared to this paint kit!

    Serendipity!

Amazing, as ever, total work of art! God, the hours I used to spend trying to get that anodised effect in my plastic modelling days.

Very nice Steve! I really like the less glossy/reflective metal. I had a quick look at the model yesterday and I thought the default textures all looked a bit too polished.....

    Thanks,
    Huub

Thanks Huub. From what I can tell most of the "Ds", especially by the time the first ones were being deployed to Vietnam in the early/mid 60's, were painted "sliver." if you look carefully there is very little to no panel shade/texture differences except for normal weather and grime. Prior to combat most were very clean and "shiny" but still all one shade front to tail. Now, if you compare one of the very colorful natural metal "C" models to a clean "D" model the difference between the metal "C" vs the painted "D" can be striking.

So, 55-3766 is "painted". Hope that makes sense.

My apologies everyone. sheet 3 and 4 are identical except one is left and the other is right.

The upload has been corrected and for those who see this post here is just the affected texture. Unzip it and drop the .dds file into the texture.307th_TFS folder and allow to overwrite. That should take care of the reversed USAF text. sorry for the trouble.

What you say makes perfect sense. I had a look at the pictures from the F-100 E used by 32 TFS. They were indeed all nicely polished when they arrived at Soesterberg. However they rapidly became less shinny in the Dutch weather.

But the pictures show they always remained bare metal. When they were repainted in 1958 with the later scheme with Dutch national flag at the tail they were polished again.

The D version aircraft indeed all seem to be painted. Either in a camouflage scheme or silver. Funny that I only saw it after you told me (and I'm sure I'm not the only one).

And although 32 TFS flew the E version, I hope I can still pursued you to do an early (less glossy) 32 TFS scheme for the Super Sabre (When I use the non-probe model I can hardly see the difference ).

The super Sabre and 32 TFS weren't a very lucky combination. 32 TFS lost several aircraft in crashes over the Netherlands, killing both pilots and people at the ground. They also lost several aircraft at and around Wheelus AB in Libya, where they went for the shooting range.

    Cheers,
    Huub

WH47, menef, and Huub thank you for your kind remarks. Still not happy with the drop tank texture so continuing to tinker.
