    PTO Solomons Campaign Overlay

Moderators, can you please make this a sticky thread?

I've uploaded to Mediafire a package of files designed to overwrite an install of CFS3 PTO Solomons v 1.54.

    https://www.mediafire.com/file/yeyl2...20922.zip/file

The package is designed to create a stand-alone install to allow use of the CFS3 campaign engine in the Solomons theatre.

This is still largely the work of the original crew:

    Rick (RCAF_Gunner) Rutherford
    Guy (Fox) Greenberg
    Gregory (gregoryp) Pierson
    Rob (Capt Winters) Stevenson
    John (johno_UK) Benfield
    Bob (rbp71854) Park
    Dave(dangerous)Boynton
    Mike ( stumpjumper) Hamiliton
    Justin (corpsegrinder) Whitesell
    Steve (o-1 Driver) Dunn
    Martin Wright
    Ed (gzr_groundhog) Wilson

In addition others of CFS3's small community contributed ships aircraft and skins to the PTO Solomons theatre, including Ndicki, Bravo/4, sdsbolt and Jaycee. The credits for all those listed for the original package still apply and are included in this package.

Take care when accessing the link, that you select the right Download button. Mediafire is riddled with ads all wanting you to click on them.

Well done! Ed would have been pleased that his initial creation is still going strong and being enhanced with additions.

Clive should be mentioned in that it was his adaptation of landing strips on ships made the creation of floating islands possible.

Oh, yes! Clive Pat Pattle should take a bow for that great idea, a great example of lateral thinking.

    Campaign Hints

Just some comments about the campaign missions in the Solomons missions, for those rare benighted individuals who decide to create a stand-alone for campaign purposes.

The campaign utilises four nationalities USA, US_Navy, Japan_ijn and Japan_aaf. It is easily possible to add other nationalities Australia, New_Zealand and US_Marines.

The most common mission you will encounter is destroy ships. The target ships are a bit slow to spawn sometimes, you need to overfly the target by up to 6NM for the target ships to spawn. Sometimes you even need to double back before the ships appear. This works about 95% of the time so that was probably par for the course back in the day.

The next most common of the 3 star *** rated missions is aircraft_intercept. You will sometimes get frontline missions to attack ammo depots or other facilities on the frontline, but you have to hunt for them, I think the scarcity of land makes most missions over water. Watch out for flak or you might end up in the drink!
