It is with great sadness that I let you know of the death of my brother, Chris Westervelt, known here as Mask Rider. He loved being part of the CSF2 WWII flight simulation world and the many friends he made here. He passed away Monday, February 28th, 2022. You all meant a lot to him. Best to you all, Jan.

    Cheers,

    Captain Kurt

My Prayers go out to his family.

Even though I don't fly CFS2 I know he did alot for it.If I'm not mistaken he was one of the first to upgrade the scenery.

    RIP Chris.

May Chris rest in peace, and I share my condolences with his family, friends, and the entire CFS2 community. Everything stopped when I read this. MaskRider basically laid the foundations of scenery building and taught the way forward. The Pacific Theatre will forever contain his imprint.

RIP MaskRider. Thank you for all of your contributions and for showing the way forward.

That is sad to hear,...what a 'tiller of soil' CFS2 legend he is.

Thank you Chris for all you've given us, you will always be part of everyones install.

Condolences to all his family and friends.

When "Mask Rider" first issued his detailed airfields, I observed a dramatic change in CFS2.

His work, combined with that of other highly talented folks, began to transform the CFS2 activity from a game, into a historical simulator.

Very effectively, he rendered the relentlessly hot, dusty airbases stuffed into the dark, forbidding jungles on remote islands, spanning the intimidating distances of the vast South Pacific.

    Detail.

    Atmosphere.

    Functional and emotional history.

That's not an easy thing to achieve, and I shudder when I think how many hours spent to craft simulation upgrades like those that Chris so freely uploaded for our (collective) enhanced experience.

My condolences to Chris' family and friends, and raise a high toast to the years we were treated to his extreme generosity.

Blue skies and tailwinds to you, Mask Rider!!

    Gone but never forgotten.

Chris taught me so much about using the scenery tools. Generous in sharing his knowledge, Chris waste reason I started to fiddle around with how CFS 2 looks (and could be improved.

Magoo said it well - he was one of those pioneers that helped to turn a game into a historical simulator.

The vibrancy of this community today bears witness to how well that was done.

So long MR, & thank you for all you did for us.

    Rest in peace.

You meant a lot to all of us and especially to me. You were essentially my teacher when it comes to scenery building. Thank you brother, and rest in peace. We will continue to build on the foundation you laid...

This is very sad news. I had the pleasure of helping Chris in a small way with building a couple of his later scenery packages.

He certainly will be missed by his mates in the CFS2 community.

    Rest in peace Chris.

What a great loss. He will be missed. I'm the same age as MR and more than 30 yrs ago, upon the death of my Father, someone sent me this, by Henry Scott Holland........It helped me greatly.

I did not know him personally but installed many of his sceneries over the years. A true CFS2 artist.

    Very sad news.
Landing on a Maskrider field is still one of the delights of CFS2.
Thanks for all you have given us Chris.

My condolences. Very sad news indeed. Another legend of the CFS2 has gone. Like for many of us, his airfields really made CFS2 really come alive. And his airfields are the things I still miss since I have moved to FS2004 (already ages ago).

Thanks for you legacy and rest in peace,
    Huub

CFS2 was my real intro into the flight sim world all those years ago and Mask Rider's contributions were a big part of it.

    RIP Chris.
