    Sometimes achieving that level of detail was beyond annoying. I spent three hours this morning chasing down the texture location behind a pair of valves on the top of the engine. Every time I thought I had zeroed in on the right spot, they would display as some color other that what I had painted. After finally deciphering the logic behind the color shifts, I came to the conclusion that it was accessing more than one location, and blending them together to present the final result. It turns out that the four single pixels in the extreme corners of the 2048 x 2048 texture needed to all be the same color to get those two valves to display the same as all the other valves that were textured directly from the engine part of the image.

    With tonight's addition of a couple of cockpit texture items, and finding the right paint location for the longitudinal stabilizer keel the paint kit is now fully compatible with both the Malcom Hood and Bubble Top versions of the AH P-47.

    Unfortunately the Machine Guns, Waste Gates, and Landing Gear Torque Links all share the same hard coded color in the m3d. Each really should be their own color and brightness, but alas I've had to pick one and let the others be what they'll be. In this case I've optimized for the Waste Gate, consigning the Guns to be in their darker variation instead of the more common bright finish, and the strangely unfinished looking Torque Links are hidden in the wheel well most of the time.

    Sunday's effort was a go back on all the panel lines to reduce them from a flat 3/16" wide to something in the 1/16" - 1/8" range. (The pixel scaling has some stretch variation depending on the surface being mapped.) This was combined with deepening the bump map depth to match the look of the gaps and panel mismatches I was seeing in typical P-47 photos.

    These projects are never really finished, but I've done enough for now...

    AH_P47D_Silver_Lady


    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 3 American Aircraft

    Description: With permission by the owner of Aeroplane Heaven, Bazzar.

    This is a reworking by MajorMagee of the AH original package to make it more compatible with AnKor's Shaders, increase the texture resolution, add panel line bump maps, create lights and special effects, and to clean up some of the mapping irregularities.

    This stand-alone represents Silver Lady as she was in late 1944 after her modification to add the Malcolm Hood.

    The textures included here are the prime example output of my AH_P47D Paint Kit published separately.

    Gidday MajorMagee, what a great looking bird. Amazing how a great skin transforms a model. I hope some of the old hands at Aeroplane Heaven are able to see what their model can look like.

    In terms of loadouts, one of my pleas is that "Recon" is included as a Missiontype in loadouts. Probably suit a loadout with fuel tanks. Recon was left off early missions because there was an error in the recon spawn files, they missed out a goal and damage percent etc, standard for campaign missions. I've uploaded a fix here at SOH some years ago.

    Thanks for adding the much overlooked Recon, Majormagee. Maybe it will inspire me to add more interesting/creative recon spawns. It will be interesting to see which loadout the campaign engine chooses for say, an intercept mission.

    Have those dl_ prefixed, ie. made from scratch by me and not asked about, pylons been tested to be anywhere near the position they should be?

    The belly pylon was specifically created for the stock bubbletop to place the ordnance correctly and the bazooka pylons are actually different on the starboard and port sides because the hardpoints in that model are asymmetrical. If used on a properly made model they'll throw at least one of the tubes' positioning off, probably both. I spent some noticable time researching the positioning of the belly rack and the bazooka tubes, and then some more time making the pylons actually fit, and I'm 100% sure nothing of it applies on the AH model because the hardpoints are different. And it's definitely not my fault even though my name is on them because they've been used incorrectly.

    If you want to market fantasy loadouts with British rockets and pylons on a P-47D, I'd very much like to see it done without including my stuff without approval in them.

    Beyond that, I am truly sorry I assumed that sharing information about the possible customization options with all the various resources we have available to us was harmless.

    In the future I will remember that every one of the two dozen enthusiasts we still have left here who actually downloaded it could have easily done it on their own, and don't need or want my input any longer.

    As far as I can tell, just referring to a pylon, weapon, or anything else for that matter, in an xdp, xml, or similar file, is not infringing on any upload anyone has made in CFS3. I would take it for granted that anyone making a weapon, pylon, etc., to put in an upload, is expecting people to use it, and sharing their use of it is quite acceptable.

    Andy makes great contributions to aircraft xdps through his work on reticles, + clight gauges uvlight placecement, and other refinements to the xdps, so it would be a great pity if he feels that he should stop those contributions.

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 3 American Aircraft

    Description: With permission by the owner of Aeroplane Heaven, Bazzar.


    This is a reworking by MajorMagee of the AH original package to make it more compatible with AnKor's Shaders, increase the texture resolution, add panel line bump maps, create lights and special effects, and to clean up some of the mapping irregularities.


    This stand-alone represents P-47D-22-RE s/n 42-26261, flown by Lt. Walter A. grabowski, 511th FS, 405thFG, 9th AF, Zima, Italy, 1944-45 with the Malcolm Hood.

    A customized version of my AH_P47D Paint Kit is included to show the locations of some painted surfaces that were not fully defined for Silver Lady. (Some aircraft projects may require that you use layer information from both paint kits.)

    I intentionally made this one with a relatively fresh paint job. Only the forward oil cooler flaps should have the yellow paint, but the model mapping precludes doing that so I chose to color them both rather than not painting them at all.

    The paint kit is set up in a way that it would be relatively easy to make the paint look chipped and worn, as seen in some of the available photos for this aircraft, but for now I'll leave that to others.



    If you would prefer to not have the antenna wire it would require a hex edit of the m3d to set the value at F78 to 00.
