French Douglas DB-7B3 light/med bomber plus French bombs

    Hi Folks,
Just uploaded the new French Douglas DB-7B3 WWII bomber to the libary. I based it on Alphasim's old Boston III, rebuilt into the correct DB-7 size and shape nose, nacelles and tail fin, along with parts form Milton's Havoc. Now with a animated crew, rear gun activation, steerable nose wheel etc. Loads of LODs, so has little or no FR hit.

Converted Milton's Havoc 2D panel into CFS2, so you can now use that with your Havocs, new tex and weapon load-out (included in download).

    Icon22 Thanks a bunch!

    Mark,

It is awesome that you chose to do this and to choose a model heavily engaged in 1940 France. I really appreciate this and will include a package update that incorporates this new model.

Cheers, and a virtual sherry to you!

    Andrew,
You're welcome. The Havoc/Boston is one of my all time favorite ac, and the DB-7 is the purest of them.

(A sherry?!..when was the last time you had a sherry! I think the last time I had any, was a sneaky swig out of a bottle at Christmas..hic)

    glh,
    de rien...

And forgot to mention that I actually made some working cooling gills! Luckily not many on the DB-7 engines..ha ha..but won't be something I will always be doing...too much like hard work.

    Cheers

    Mark,

I made some adjustments to the .air and .cfg files to reflect an actual empty weight of 11,400lbs for the DB-7-3 model, and Pratt & Whitney R-1830-S3C4-G radials of 1,100hp. Cylinder displacement was 133.556, with a compression ratio of 6.7:1, and a maximum manifold pressure of 48.5 Hg.

Even with these adjustments, she's still got a very light touch, accelerates quickly, and has good overall performance.

That being said, were there supposed to be gauges included in this? I'm missing 11 of them after scouring my installs for them.

    Missing: breaks05.gau, f80c_shooting_star.gau, fsd_tdo.spoiler.gau, ga.twinquad.gau, hal-switches.gau, hunter_trim.gau, mm_df_clean.gau, p51_accelerometer.gau, p51_gear.gau, tbm_mag_compass.gau, and typhoon_fuel.gau.

    Thanks again for the model!

Very Nice Surprise!! Thanks for this.

It goes a long way towards rounding out the CFS2 Havoc family. With this, I think it just leaves the A-20B as the only significant version still not modeled (heavy combat use by the US Air Corp in New Guinea / North Africa and the Russians).
    Cheers,

Fantastic work Shessi - thanks very much!

Do you know if French gauges were used at all? I read the surviving French aircraft which were used by the RAF had some instruments changed.

    Cheers,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    Glad you like it.
Re-French panels/gauges. There is little or no info/pics of French DB-7 panels, but Douglas did supply them with US fitted ac. The French took them direct to North Africa where they were fitted out and painted. They were then flown to mainland France and battle.

Yes, they would have had metric gauges fitted, I doubt all the gauges would have been changed to French ones, but some probably marked up in French. See below.....

    Folks,
I've just re-uploaded a new version with the full gauge pack, also I've done a French panel also included for choice.

    I did...

...a dedicated and correct airfile for it. Maybe I would upload it here. I got exact 308 MPH as the real thing.

    Cheers
