    It is quite fun doing the ships.

    It is not very difficult, once you get the hang of GMax.

    For comments regarding 'output', I have made 'templates' of a few weapons and a couple of hulls. So, effectively the hulls of the Cruisers are just enlarged versons of the destroyer hulls and this really speeds up the process, cut and paste, so to speak.

    My texturing is only OK, not Colin or Uncltgt quality, but is passable.

    Most of the 'variety' of ships within each class only differ in armament, so too avoid the 100 ship problem, pick one you like.

    Same with the modelling, it ain't Usio, but they are only targets (except for the carriers).

    No DP file skills yet, but I might (only might) get into those.

    I do intend to have a go at a lot of ships over the next year or so, there are a lot of Italian, French and Dutch ships 'missing' as well as few IJN and US ships.

    Cheers,

    Stuart

    CFS2 RN Arethusa Class Cruisers WWII.zip

    A new entry has been added to Add-Ons Library, category CFS 2 Ships Add-Ons

    Description: GMax models for CFS2 of the The Arethusa class was a class of four light cruisers built for the Royal Navy between 1933 and 1937 and that served in World War II.

    The Arethusas were a smaller version of the Amphion (HMAS Perth) class. The design was judged to be the minimum required for a "trade route cruiser" to counter the threat of the auxiliary cruiser over which, even with their reduced armament, they would enjoy a comfortable superiority.

    DP is form the VN Ajax, so it probably needs upgrading.

    There are two sets:

    1940 with a catapult ready to go, but not set up for catapult launch (cfg files are not my go)
    1942 with quad 2 pounders replacing the catapults, as well as extra AA.

    Cheers,

    Stuart

    A BIG thank you to Stu!

    These cruisers, his destroyers and some others of his Royal Navy ships will be in the BPF missions and campaigns.

    I am completely reworking the Meridian missions based on more complete and accurate information provided to me by John B.

    I have also replaced the AH_Seafire with GB_Seafire_Mk15_Late from A.F. Scrub found here in the library. Its performance is much more accurate to the actual Seafire. AH's was a bit under powered, under performing.

    I don't know yet when I will have all of the new missions built, but am working hard on them this week. My next Masters degree classes start the 11th and I will not have a lot of free time then until Christmas break.

    Once again, THANK YOU Stuart!

    Stu, one request: Can you see your way clear to make some BPF carriers with longer-wider decks than available right now. I am really having to modify power settings in the air files on Corsairs and Hellcats to get them airborne off the current selection of carriers in CFS2. Right now I am using the USS Enterprise CV-6 and renaming it as HMS Victorious. It is the only carrier that I can get airborne off of.

    Thanks for your great work Stu.

    I also enjoyed much with your IJN Escort Carriers.

    I would like to request you to consider to built Japanese BB "Nagato" & Japanese DD "Shimakaze" in the future when you have a time.

    If ever you are interested, I'm willing to assist you to gather info about these ships.

    Thanks a lot again. More power!

    Nice camo patterns Dombral, I hope you will upload them soon.

    DD73

    Heavily laden take-offs from the "I" class is hairy, but it can be done, I tried some test missions using the OH F4U1a & F6F3. So long as the carrier is steaming at 30ts, & you start the take off roll from the rear elevator (I appreciate not terribly true to life), you'll make it into the air. If you give it a single notch of flap as you pass the island, & you resist the temptation to pull the nose up as you cross the bow, you can get enough airspeed irrespective of the wind state. Just raise the flaps as your airspeed picks up.

    I looked at the respective flightdeck sizes, the Enterprise is (roughly) 250mtrs long by 34mtrs wide, whereas the "I" class were 230mtrs long by 30mtrs wide. The difference doesn't sound like much, but the difference in width is enough room to sit 2 x F4Fs abreast on the big E's flight deck, & not so for the RN "I" boats. Extrapolating draght measurements & profile drawings I reckon the RN carrier deck was c.10mtrs above water level, whereas the Big "E" sat at c.14mtrs, some 40% higher than the RN carrier's deck. Does the Enterprise look very much larger (side by side) than the VN Illustrious in game?

    QUESTION: How did you manage to put two aicrafts together in a moving aircraft carrier?

    I don´t remember seeing such a thing before.

    Sorry that I right in English but I´m not fluent in French.

    BPF Carrier Take Off

    Hi Devildog
    Thank you for you kind comments.
    With regard to the RN Carriers, I compared the VN_Illustrious with the SHA_Yorktown and they look in the correct proportion in terms of length, beam and height. (see attachments)
    I have also tested the OH Corsair, OH Hellcat and OH Avenger loaded with Heavy Bombs and have had no problems with take-off from the VN_Illustrious. The ships is set at 30knots and no wind.
    I am not sure why you are having problems with take off.
    Cheers
    Stuart

    LOL,
    In my attempt to be accurate, I slowed the carriers down to 20 knots. Some of the escort ships in CFS2 are not made to run above 20 knots. Shoot, the HMS Ocean and Colossus class escort carriers are made with top speeds well below 20 Knots.
    I don't know how to modify their speed capabilities.

    Modifying Ship Speed

    Hi Devildog
    You can modify a ships speed by opening the DP file in wordpad (or similar) and scrolling down to the [MISC_DATA] section. Here you will find something like the one below (VN_Victorious_1945) from UncleTgt.
    The speeds are in kilometres per hour.

    [MISC_DATA]
    unit_family=7
    category=13
    allegiance=1
    min_speed=0
    cruise_speed=55
    max_speed=55
    entered_service=5/15/41
    priority=9
    hardness=12

    Hmmm! looks like the Victorious is pretty quick in cruise mode!!!

    Cheers
    Stuart
    PS HMS Colossus speed is 25 knots (45Kph), according to wiki

    Yeah, 55 Km/H cruise and top speeds? Must have burned a lot of fuel just cruising.......

    Max speed is correct as she was capable of 30Kts. Cruise for max range would be just under half that, say 14Kts or round about 26Km/h.

    Thank you!

    They look great

    Sure needed

    you could set the cruise speed to the correct numbers but you might run into problems in MB.

    Already done on several ships. It doesn't affect MB at all.

    Hey Stuart

    I wounder if I could trouble you for a couple more ships.

    HMS Revenge --- REVENGE class battleship
    HMS Caledon --- CALEDON class Light Cruiser
    HMS Carysfort --- CAROLINE class Light Cruiser

    I need those three ships for the Tondern Raid

    I have your Arethusa class and your V and W destroyers. I also have the HMS Furious. All that is missing now are those three. I have all of the specs if you need them.

    here is a list of the ships in the Tondern Raid.
    On 17th July Operation F7 left Rosyth dockyard in Scotland made up of the following:

    HMS Furious

    'Force A'
    1st Light Cruiser Squadron:
    HMS Caledon --- CALEDON class Light Cruiser
    HMS Galatea --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser
    HMS Royalist --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser
    HMS Phaeton --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser
    HMS Inconstant --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser

    along with destroyer escorts.

    'Force B'
    1st Battle Squadron:
    HMS Revenge --- Revenge class battleship
    HMS Royal Oak --- Revenge class battleship
    HMS Royal Sovereign --- Revenge class battleship
    HMS Resolution --- Revenge class battleship
    HMS Ramillies --- Revenge class battleship

    7th Light Cruiser Squadron:
    HMS Carysfort --- CAROLINE class Light Cruiser
    HMS Aurora --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser
    HMS Penelope --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser
    HMS Undaunted --- ARETHUSA class Light Cruiser

    along with destroyer escorts.

    Its funny to note that every ship in the Arethusa class was in on this mission.

    Let me know what you think.

    Till Later,

    I found the Caledon. She was lost in your fleet.

    so that just leaves the Revenge and the Caroline. Looks like I need to plaint another Camel.

    Revenge and C Class Cruisers

    Hi John
    The ships you require are in the RN C Class Cruiser package and the RN Battleships package.
    They should be somewhere at SOH.

    hey stuart,

    I'll look for the Battleships. i didn't see a CAROLINE class Light Cruiser in there. i'll take a look in Jane's fighting ships and see if one of your others match.

    The ships look Awesome by the way. I hope to get a Sopwith Camel 2F.1 operational real soon. I have completed the 50lb coopers. so the Tondern Raid is taking shape.

    I am so blind...

    Blind as a Bat...

    I found the ship. You know, I looked in that folder 6 times... atleast 6. over looked it every time.

    So that just means a 'Ships Camel' is all thats left.
