    Fly-By camera !!????....

    I am almost sure i am not the only one that is extremely dearly missing a Fly-By camera option in MSFS. So for any other Fly-By camera aficionados waiting for it to finally arrive in MSFS ( remember 'Active Camera' for FS9 by Anticyclone ?..;-) this might be good news. Check these out :

    Is that a Fly-By camera view or not ??!!... How on virtual earth does he do that ??!!....

    I have asked Grippersim in the comments but i am almost sure he's not going to answer. He did not answer any question that was asked in the comments. (mostly about the final 'white cliffs of Dover' footage that is truly amazing)

    Does anybody here have an idea how he did it ? Does he use some special video editing equipment or is there a new MSFS camera proggy that he is testing and we don't know about ? It is not like this Fly-By camera view simply belongs to one of the current Camera Add-On programs, is it ??....

    In any case, atleast for me it's quite a Tantalus Torture as a Fly-By camera option is the only thing i miss so much in the Camera/Viewing department of MSFS. I'll never understand why MS/Asobo did not include this most spectacular view option in the first place !

    Highly appreciated if anyone here might have a clue about what we see here regarding the exiting Fly-By sequences in this Grippersim video.

    Thanks!

    I would bet that this is a recorded flight track and he is flying the drone around as it is played back. You can detach the drone from the plane to make a flyby type of view, but it's wildly impractical to do while also flying.

    I just want tower view back

    Funny thing is that <<<Replay>>> at the topleft is only shown in the second fly-by sequence, not in the other two..

    I fooled around with the drone view for a while, nice toy indeed, but did not find a way to use it to create a fly-by view. The Tower view in FSX/P3D is great of course but (IIRC) it doesn't let you position yourself at the edge of runway to watch your take-off's and landings during Replay (something else that is dearly missing in MSFS).

    In FS9 a thirdparty dev also had to come up with a Replay and Fly-By camera option. "Active Camera" by Anticyclone from Belgium. This was particularly clevery done. You could f.i. click on a point alongside the runway during final approach (from within the VC!), finish your landing and then hit 'Replay' and watch your final approach and landing from the point you clicked before alongside the runway. Absolutely magical !

    No matter how i tried i could not persuade them to convert their fantastic Active Camera to work with FSX (it does have a default Fly-By and Replay mode already of course). It would be like winning the Jackpot if these guys would setup their Active Camera for MSFS !

    Thanks SeeRyFly!

    You can do this with the regular drone camera. Here is how I do it, though it's not all that practical:

    1. Use active pause to pause your aircraft in flight
    2. Use Drone camera to slew the camera into position
    3. Toggle "Drone Follow Mode", you can also press C on your keyboard to toggle control of your aircraft/camera controls
    4. Turn off active pause, fly around

    You can find a ton of information here in regards to camera controls

    I do not know how he did it, but MSFS definitely needs a Fly-By camera!

    We should start a petition or something like that!! Tower view was just brilliant in legacy sims, in MSFS it would be brilliant!

    We can dream/hope, can't we?

    ... not only fly-by & tower, we also need "touchdown / threshold point" tracking, Facilities view, and see below :

    Below is from LM P3D/ FSX camera cfg.:

    Title = Locked Spot

    Guid = {BCA3FDD1-FB83-4BBA-8407-4922A7F0D00D}
    Description = This is the description of the spot view.
    Origin = Center
    SnapPbhAdjust = Swivel
    SnapPbhReturn = False
    PanPbhAdjust = Swivel
    PanPbhReturn = False
    Track = FixedChaseLocked // ----->>> FlatChaseLocked_original

    I hate the "Flat Chase Locked " view of MSFS when in the external view, the camera turns with the aircraft. I think it needs to be "Fixed Chase Locked" ... I hope I did this the right way.

    Thanks for bringing this up, flameout. Dunno why but until now it didn't occur to me to have a look at the MSFS 'Cameras.cfg'.... (possibly because i thought it might not be there anyway what with all this new camera stuff and all..) But it's there alright ( C:Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\ CAMERAS.CFG).

    And, Low 'n Behold, there's even a [CameraDefinition.005] Title = Flyby..... And [CameraDefinition.008] Title = Facilities Tower.... as well.

    But clearly that's just taking the mickey out of us, isn't it ??.... We damn well KNOW there's no Fly-By nore Tower View in MSFS, right ?..

    So can we safely assume this 'Camera.cfg' inside the Microsoft Flight Simulator folder means nothing at all ?.... Just an abandoned old relic from the ancient, long gone era of FSX/P3D ??....

    Who can tell ?

    Nah, we're all narcissists, we want to watch *ourselves* take-off and land.. (Ok, i speak for myself.. ;-)

    The best way to drone around is with an XBox controller. There's a store here locally that deals in used gaming equipment and they offer refunds if you get one home and there's anything wrong with it. I picked up one for about $25 and brought it home to find that it had a sticking button. But a #0 Phillips driver, some rubbing alcohol, and a little "canned air" had it working just fine without needing to take it back. I plugged it in and was able to navigate just fine with the default bindings.

    Yes, got one of those, Tom, earlier on John (Terrell) adviced me that it was the best way to control the Drone view. And it certainly is. It's a nice toy to fool around with that Drone view this way. Still i'd trade it anytime for just a regular, old fashioned, down to earth (and up into the skies) instant FLY-BY camera view ! You know, click Fly-By from View options (or hit a button on Joystick) et presto here comes your plane approaching you from a distance, whizzes by maybe in a shallow turn if you like, and quickly disappears into the far yonder. Then, without you having to do anything, magically the sequence repeats itself ( Replay Loop). If it's good you let that replay for half an hour, if it's not that good you stop Replay and create another Fly-By sequence.

    More Great Fun when you try to point your aircraft directly at you as it approaches you. If the sound suite is any good and it's a Spitfire or Mustang you'll turn the sound volume way up and i will guarantee that you'll duck your head !

    C'mon! Who'll give us that pleasure back in MSFS !??

    I really miss the tower view as it was great for aerobatic flying or fly the simulator from outside just like a RC plane

    Exactly !! It provides real meaning to "Buzz the Tower" !..

    You know about 'Real Flight', don't you ?..

    So near yet so far away...

    It's all in there, Fly-By and Tower View, in that Drone thingy, but it just won't work ( what were they thinking when setting that drone thing up... ).

    We'd have atleast a regular Tower View if they'd given that Drone the ability to keep still and stay up right ! A real Drone would do that, wouldn't it. In 'Drone Lock Mode' it will stay put alright and keep your aircraft in view but the madness begins once your aircraft passes the Drone. Then it will suddenly tilt until the horizon takes up a diagonal position and even turns up side down when you manage to pass the Drone again..... (so with the ground on top and the sky below... )

    You see, ak416, with 'Drone Follow Mode' it will also keep the aircraft in view but still 'follow it' at the distance you have setup. Quite a nice view also (apart from the regular external view) but i am looking for a camera that stays where you set it up and keeps your aircraft in view. That's exactly what that 'Drone Lock Mode' does but after you fly by the Drone it starts to rotate the complete scene (while 'Drone Rotation' is at 0,00% ! ) that makes flying your aircraft any further completely impossible.

    So dear Mr. Asobo,Sir, get that wretched Drone thing of yours to stay where we put it and keep it STILL! No Rotation! Please!!.. Then we have atleast our beloved Tower View back. ( i'm sure with a little bit of effort you can make that a repeating Fly-By view as well. Thank you very much ! )

    Thanks again for the suggestion, ak416, i certainly know a bit more about that Drone thing ! ( and also great to know now how Gripper Sim created those Fly-By sequences in his fantastic Spitfire video. The first sequence also shows the Drone camera beginning to tilt the whole scene...)

    So close to Tower View and Fly-By view but not quite...

    Might there be a 'Drone Expert' here that can show us how to disable 'Rotation' and/or 'Tilting' of that Drone camera in 'Drone Lock Mode' ??...
    Atleast half of the MSFS community will be forever in debt to you!

    Sure ! I have 'Real Flight' only. Truly fantastic. Certainly because i have done real RC flying too and don't have to return home with a sad wreckage anymore. One push of a button and there we go again.
