Well, I've got my plane shot out from under me by enemy ground fire and
had an enemy patrol chase me home. I've never encountered any scramblers though.

I always get whacked in any Spotter, RR or AB attack! A lot of ordnance is thrown at you that you don't hear or see. Also, 'warping' puts me in hornet's nests quite often so, latley, I don't 'warp' and just endure the boredom of the flight to and from (if I survive) the target. Reminds me of my dad's (R.I.P.) WWII battleship Maryland stories in the navy. Most of the time it was boring as Hades but interrupted by episodes of sheer terror.

Maybe check settings in Workshop for ground fire etc WWI Flying Ace?

Plenty of resistance from ground fire normally!

If you upgraded from P2, maybe try a clean install if you have oddities?

Flying campaings in RB3D, I attacked many enemy aerodromes. IIRC, only once or twice was there ever any enemy planes taking off, and it seems to me they were mostly all airborne just as we arrived. Instant low altitude furball!

Once in a while there would be some enemy planes in the area: bombers returning from a raid with their escort; a flight of fighters that happened to be taking off from another airport; etc.

I was always a German pilot, and it seems to me the most frequent encounters with airborne opposition were on the way to attack aerodromes near the coast: deep in enemy territory. But the resistance met there was always airborne patrols; not on the ground taking off.

And some times we'd run into competition on the way home; especially if I went after a target of opportunity like a balloon.

But for the most part it was always just fly through the flak, kill all the machinegunners and AA guns, and torch a bunch of hangars. No aircraft parked or taking off.

I've yet to try it in OFF/BHAH, so I don't yet know if this sim operates similarly in this regard or not; but I hope to find out soon.

    Prost! :ernae:

I'm doing well with the balloon attacks. I look at the Tac and plan my run staying away from ground objects (buildings). There is usually a clear way in and last mission it was clear to the right of the target, so I turned sharp right after popping the gas bag. Drop fast at the spotter, get the gasbag and turn clear. Full throttle helps, get as much altitude as fast as possible afterwards and get the heck out of there. I've not taken a ground fire hit yet that way (at least for balloons, airfields are a different story....)

Not to burst your bubble, use and plan your moves with any TAC screens you please. But last time I looked, there were no ground objects over 40 Feet tall, no smokestacks, no water towers, and in 1917, very few telephone poles. The tallest thing around, is some of the trees.
    No barrage balloons

Check Out the name: Willy Coppens . .He was a Belgian Ace around 1916, 24 of his 27 Kills were balloons. He had a Unique Method .... Foolproof, Yet never Imitated :ernae:

I have never seen planes scramble from the air field i was attacking, but there is definitely plenty of enemy AA MG on those fields to keep me from making more than 1 pass.

Also, most times i am intercepted by enemy airplanes who must have been scrambled from other airfields.

So far in P3 the every time my pilot gets shot down and I mean everytime it's been doing a airfield attack mission. I survive the forced landing but always get stuck in the slammer for the duration. There is plenty of ground fire protecting the airfields.

As for the AI wingmen I have yet to see them attack the proper airfield it's always one a few klicks away.
