    FPS Survey

Guys I started a Poll on ATI card FPS issues some time back so we could gauge how many folks were struggling FPS wise with the new cards which unless tweaked settings wise seem to battle with CFS3 and OFF ....

Now I would like to do a general FPS Poll ( irrespective of GPU type) and ask you to state your PC specs - slider settings and average FPS and whether you have acceptable FPS Vs eyecandy etc.
Also PLEASE STATE WHAT YOU VOTED (YES OR NO) SO I CAN USE THE DATA TO OPTIMISE ETC!!!!

Yes there is always an FPS drop at fields - but it should not slide show - its a CFS3 trait from day 1 but apart from that players should be able to get reasonable FPS with adjustment of the sliders - certainly this has been the case with development and testing on more than 15 PCs of various power.

Finally do not set regional air activity on high as it will demand a lot from your CPU and Medium or Low is suitable for todays rigs - when this years new CPUs and GPU come out Heavy will be a viability.

But lets hear it from you now!

I have managed to get 20-30 fps everywhere (which is very good) with nice graphics. BUT I still have 10 fps above the front when there is heavy bombardment going on (and I get about 12-14 fps even when NOT looking directly at the front)
But after all it is very nice :ernae:
    -------

!EDIT!(After seeing Winder's post)Here are my PC specs (I didnt vote NO but I still got crappy fps over the front-and only over the front- during artillery barrage so I post them)
Intel P4 3 GhZ (Dynamically O/C using MSIs Dual Core Center)
    4GB of RAM (DDR2 5300)
    Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 9600GT 512MB
    <Mobo link>
    160GB Hard Disk
    17LCD at 1280x1024(max rez)
    sliders 5/3/3/5/1.

Guys if you vote no, I need your PC specs and slider settings otherwise I have no info to base any 'possible' 'optimizations' on - in which case voting is meaningless.

    My rig is as follows
    New 'puter - Quad I7 processor @ 2.93 ; Triple memory 3 gigs: nVidia 280 1gig card. running XP32 bit SP3

I turn off AV and firewall- I use fraps, trackir.

Flying in QC usually one on one at 1680 res with slider at 54453 I get 28 in clouds and 40 in fine weather.
    I get 30 around airfields.
    Very satisfactory.

Not yet done campaign figures, and i haven't looked for the "Siggi" effect, but i will. Then I will vote
What I do do, is reboot every day. I never leave my 'puter on for long periods.

    Running very smooth.

Specs: E8400 CPU, 8800GT vidcard, sliders 54451, 1920x1200 res., framerates 45 typical, in the 20s at the worst (rare).

Oh, and I do have the regional air activity on 'heavy' and haven't had any problems so far.

I think you misread. The poll is for everyone so join in  The ATI poll is elsewhere.

Yes 8400 is a great CPU architecture wise perfect for single thread app like CFS3/OFF and explains why you can run heavy!!

    Great to hear it!

Sliders set to 4-4-3-3-1 . I get decent FPS nearly everywhere, but the airfields. Over and on them frames drop to 15-19 fps.

    Q6600@ 2,6ghz
    ATI Raedeon 4870 512 mb
    4 gigs, 3.6 adressed
    xp home SP3

edit: voted for "i have managed to setup sliders for satisfactory FPS" I guess that this FPS problem is a CFS3 issue. I have had that in ETO, PTO, and vanilla CFS3, with different vid-cards.

Voted No, but that's only due to the "Front" and the Brisfit issue. FPS is fine everywhere else, though. If there could be an option to lower Ground Units? Or Smoke from the Front? That might be causing the slowdowns? I can get a smooth FPS around 30-40, but near the front or F2Bs I get 10-15.

    Anywho:

    QX6700 O/Ced to 3.2
    4GB RAM
    8800GTX 768
    XP SP2
    Sliders at 4-2-2-2-1
    1600X1200 native res

And I think it's great that you guys are looking into this. Even if nothing comes from it, it really shows you're looking out for your customers and your product.

Yes I can and that's why the details specs and your vote is great as it helps me a lot!!
I am looking into this in 1.3 and this data will help.

Last weekend, I built a system for the specific purpose of playing OFF/P3:

    Gigabyte EP-45 UD3R
    Intel E8600 @ 10x400mhz w/Zalman 9500AT HSF
    EVGA GTX285 (stock)
    4GB Crucial Ballistix PC6400 4-4-4-12 @ 2.0v
    Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium Pro
    WD Black 750GB Hard Disk
    WinXP SP3

For playing OFF, the display is set to 1920x1200x32 with 4xAA and 16xAF.

All sliders are set to 5 excepting terrain, I believe.

Fps hovers around 60, but will sink into the mid-20's dogfighting close to the ground.

    Asus Maximus Formula Mobo
    E6850 CPU @ 3.6
    4 Gig Mushkin PC8500 @ 1066
    XFX GTX280 1Gig Xtreme Edition
    X-Fi Xtreme Fatal1ty Pro Soundcard
    Sliders @ 5-4-4-5-3
    24" Samsung LCD @ 1920x1200

Average FPS mid to high 40's. Locked at 60 at altitude typically, but that's due to V-sync being enabled.

Worst drop is to around 30 at airfields.

More than playable by any standards IMHO.

Please don't take away my eye-candy. The current system can handle it just fine, thanks.....:typing:

I'll let you figure out how I voted all on your own

Winder, any opinion of E8600 which is also dual? What should I expect? It's a 3.33Ghz (I fly all my games at 4.4Ghz) and I'm still waiting for my DVD to arrive. I'll immediately post my numbers in the game when I'll get the disk on Feb 21st. But now I feel so insecure.

    Thanks.

I'm crushing the FPS rates with my new system 3.2 I7 processor with 6GB system memory and GTX 280 1 GB video card.

I was above satisfactory with my old system 3.0 processor , 2 GB memory 7800GTX 256MB (SLI)

I voted yes. When flying in formation with 4 squad mates @ around 5,000ft, I get 40-60 fps. In a dozen or more plane dogfight, closer to the deck it drops into the low 30s. I have no problems at all with BHaH on my system, and I'm going to add 2 more gigs of memory, when the postal service decides to deliver them. It should just get better. Right now the sliders are at 5,4,4,5,1.

    I voted no.
Specs: Intel P4 3.2 ghz, Soyo Dragon 2 Mobo 800 mhz front side bus, 2 gig ram running at 400 mhz
Sapphire (ATI) Radeon HD3850 w 512 mb ram.
Settings 2,2,2,2,,2,1 Many things disabled in overrides, fog, prop disk, shell casings, rain, etc.
OFF settings Activity on normal (not high), aircraft detail on low, realism 100
Using trackir with dead zone set.

Flying campaign RNAS 8 (lots of clouds and rain), full squad takeoff I might get 12 or 14 fps with planes in sight. Might jump to 20 or 25 with just one or two planes in sight. Forming up over airfield drops to 4 or 5. 2 or 3 over Bertangles (5 airfields). Drops to 7 or 8 over front. I've been tweaking like crazy since I got BHAH but yields only negligable differences. Might be as much as 10% but 10% of 10 or 12 isn't many fps.

Also, I've resorted to using last summer's Omega drivers. They seem to give me a bit better performance than anything ATI has to offer at this time.

I know that my card is probably my main problem, but I get the feeling my CPU is also a bottleneck. Of course, that could also be because of general consensus that these cards aren't using the video ram and/or only 35% of the gpu in certain applications and shunting everything to and from the CPU. FYI, I run other games with no problemsd at all such as Fallout 3, COD4, IL2 1946, call of Juarez, Gun. I do have the same type of issue with Med Air War leading me to stick with my earlier postulation that my video card and it's attendant drivers do not mesh well with CFS3. Thanks for paying attention to all tihis, esp. when it's likely not any of your doing.

I voted yes. After tweaking, I find my FPS acceptable.

MB: ASUS Striker Extreme with an nForce 680i chipset
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad QX6700 2.66 GHz, OCed to 3.20 GHz
RAM: 4 Gigs Corsair Dominator DDR2 running at 800MHz

    OS: XP Pro SP3

    Sliders at 5,3,3,5,2
    MAXFPS=40 in my CFS3.xml
I get 18 to 25 fps when taking off with 4 - 8 others on the field and 35 to 40 fps everywhere else including in a furball, over the front, over airfields, and during rain/snow storms.
