    Any suggestions for nvidia tweaking?

I'm currently running an Nvidia GEForce7300 with I believe 128MB, and the max screen res. is 1280x1024x16..(this is due to the monitors limits). I've finally got all the "jaggies" pretty much gone, but I have sacrificed detail by having to run with all of my settings at 1, except for effect detail which I run at 2. Any ideas on how to improve this? I have turned on triple buffering which really did help tremendously, but am running no AntiAliasing currently as different adjustments to this seemed to make no difference. Any other suggestions as to setting improvement ideas are much appreciated, cause I really am new at tweaking graphics cards. TIA

Try these and see if it helps.

    Smooth Frame Rates in OFF/CFS3
I have just undergone a new install on my test rig of OFF and I am reminded how good the following tweaks are.

To do these tweaks you need to open the OFF Config app. cfs3config found in your CFSWW1 Over
    FlandersFields folder.

    Firstly the must do's:

    Recommended Override settings:

    Navigate via:

    File, Custom Settings, Window, Overrides.

    Select:

    Disable Intro Movie
High Resolution Z buffer (deselect Dual Pass Render)
    Terrain Detail Texture
    Disable Validate Device

    Secondly the Frame Rate tweaks:

Recommended Override settings that may improve FPS and smoothness:

    Navigate via:

File, Custom Settings, Window, Texture Info.

Composite Terrain Texture Usage – RenderTarget
Composite Terrain Texture Pool - Managed
Composite Aircraft Texture Usage - RenderTarget
Composite Aircraft Texture Pool - Managed

Finally these may offer additional smoothness:

    Navigate via:

    File, Custom Settings, Window, Overrides.

    Select:

    Disable Write-Only Vertex Buffers
    Disable Write-Only Index Buffers

These tweaks should give you very good and smooth frames and works on both ATI (9800 pro) and Nvidia (7800 GT SLI) and are mentioned in the OFF read.me

As with all these things YMMV

Thanks CamelJockey!. I'll get to it and see what I can do.

Ps..Ok Im a dolt, so forgive me for asking, but when you say : File, custom settings, window etc etc. What "File" are you referring to? Or is this in the OFF workshop, or in the CFS3 config? Thanks again!

You are going to struggle with that video card. I upgrade from the same card just about a year ago, it is a very basic card, not much better than the on-board video. Your other system specs would be of interest, more RAM (2-3 Gb in XP) will help, also.

CJ's tweaks are in the CFS3config file.

Double click CFS3config (the one with the wrench icon) and wait for the message CFS3 has been configured. Click "File" , "Custom Settings", OK. You should see the config sliders. Click "Window", then click "Overrides".

    CJ

When you are done, make sure you click "File" and then "Exit", don't use the red "X" to exit because your setting will revert back to "Default" settings.

CJ, here are those specs, and thanks for the tweaks, they did help.

Dell DimensionE520 -DM061, (I personally call it Dimentia)
    CPU-2.80 Ghz
    2.79 Ghz-512 MB Ram
Running Windows XP Media Center Edition V.2002
    Service Pack -2

    The Graph Card is:

    GEForce 7300LE
    256 MB
    Force Ware Version 8268

Thats it. Oh by the way, sometimes I get these large purple patches in the terrain, especially around the home strip on takeoff at some low quality settings. Is there any way around that besides setting the terrain sliders higher and eating into my FPS. If not I can ignore it. Thanks for your help and if you have any other ideas to speed things up let me know.

I see I maybe should have posted this in the P-3 area. Feel free to move it if necessary, as I am referring to phase three tweaking...etc.

Well, you are the rough equivelent of my Dell E521 before I upgraded it. (AMD 3800+, x2, 7300LE, 1 Gb Ram, the dual core being dual 1.8 ghz) After upgrade, I have AMD 5600+ x2 (dual 2.8), 8600GT, 4 Gb Ram and a new power supply to run the chip and video card.
Depending on budget, you could look for an upgraded video card but it would have to have passive heat dissipation as the 305 watt PS in the 520 ain't gonna handle a card with a fan on it. I'd stay with nVidia, seems like the ATI cards have there own issues. Upgraded nVidia cards would be an 8400, 8600 series, hard to find other than used. The higher the number in the hundreds place, the better. If you want to upgrade the PS, there is one out there, 450 watts, that bolts right into the Dell box. RAM would get you the biggest bang for the buck, I'd go for 3Gb, just make sure it is all the same speed. Different speeds will work together, but only at the slowest speed.
My upgrade was about $200+/- and took me a few minutes to do. (I had never done anything inside a computer before). It depends on what you can afford and what level of performance you want to achieve.
I'd go for the RAM first, then the video card (considering a new PS will get you a better vid card)
Other than the tweaks already mentioned, there isn't much you can do other than the hardware end.

The E520 was sold in many different components and configurations, so it's hard to tell just what it is. If you would like to see exactly what is inside your system, download Belarc Advisor here.........
    http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
Download it and run it. After it updates and runs it's check you should see a page similar to the one pictured. Hit "Ctrl Print Screen", then run Microsoft Paint, hit "Edit" then "Paste". Click "File" then "Save as" and make sure you save it as a JPEG or it'll be too large to upload. It won't divulge any personal info but it will show CPU, motherboard, and RAM. Knowing what mobo you've got will make it easier to make any recommendations on potential upgrades. Also knowing what kind of budget you're working with would help also.
Maybe Parky, our resident computer "guru" (he says he's not) will look in and give some advice, in the meantime, I'll help however I can.

Thanks guys! Thats incredibly helpfull. I'm not looking to spend a whole lot very soon due to the current economic crunch, but these ideas will definately help when I do! The Ram is probably where I would start. you all have already got me runnig close to 95% Jaggy free, so thanks. If I can get CJ's diag-app to work I will post some more for more ideas.

Good RAM is quite cheap, cheap ram is almost a steal. I got 4 GB for about $70. Go to Newegg, they even have a selector you can follow to make sure you get RAM compatible for your machine.
    Actually, cheaper, I just checked. 2x 1GB Crucial 5300 is $23, 2x512mb Crucial 5300 is $17. That's 3Gb total 5300 Ram for $40.

    Kingston 5300 looks good, too.

I am going to throw a line into this topic for feedback since you guys are talking about this if it is ok, i have an AMD 3400 64 Processor 2.4 Ghz MMX, 3D Now, with 3 GB of RAM (that extra RAM sure helped with a bunch of other intensive games) and an FX 7600 GS with 256 MB, running the 6.14 driver, will it be a slow crawl or will it run OFF 2 ok? i am happy to tweak, just got the DVD from one of the great members here, but was waiting to do more research before the install. sorry hope ZoomZoom wont mind my hitching along on his thread great info here btw for such research.

It should work ok, I don't think I'd move the sliders from their 2,2,2,2,2,2 defaults, but it should be usable. If you can run FS9 ok, OFF should do ok.

thank you very much. I know i am behind the curve here, but i test and study a lot of older games and some of the higher powered systems just kill em...so had to compromise. My tech says i cant run a higher FX card on my system...so i am stuck for now.

Are you running AGP? If you're running PCIe you should be able to get a better card for your system. Also, if you're asking for help it's always good to show your system specs to give people an idea of what you've got to work with.

That tells me a lot, however, it doesn't show the mainboard type or manufacturer. That's the most important piece of info. If you know that you can tell just how far you can upgrade, if at all. Is it a package computer like a Dell, or HP etc? I'll tell you what. If you could download and install one more diagnostic program, PC Wizard 2008, it will tell you more than Belarc. You can find it here...http://pc-wizard-2008.en.softonic.com/download
It is a lot more detailed as far as the hardware side is concerned. Need to know the mainboard Manufacturer and model # to find out what your upgrade options are.
