CHECK LIST
BEFORE STARTING
Brakes Set parking brake
Battery On
Autopilot Off
Fuel Check sufficient quantity
Beacon On
ENGINE START
Throttle Open 10%
Mixture Full rich
Propeller area Clear
Ignition key/switch Operate, release when engine starts.
Oil pressure Check
Lights On, as required
Flaps Up
BEFORE TAKE-OFF
Flight controls Check free and correct
Flight instruments Check and set
Elevator trim Set for take-off
Throttle 1800 RPM. (Hold yoke full back during magneto test)
Magnetos Check. 150 RPM or less drop
Engine instruments Check
Throttle Return to idle
Strobe lights As required
Radio and GPS On and set
Autopilot Set flight parameters, master switch OFF
Flaps Set for take-off
Brakes Release
TAXI
Brakes Check
Elevator (yoke) Full back for taxi and initial take-off run
Speed Taxi at walking speed, use brakes gently
Elevator Yoke full back to keep tail wheel on the ground
TAKE-OFF
Flaps One or two notches
Brakes Released
Mixture Full rich
Throttle Increase smoothly to full open
Elevator Allow tail wheel to rise at 40 kts IAS
Climb speed 70-80 kts IAS
CLIMB
Throttle Full open
Flaps Raise at 500 ft AGL
Wheels Raise if water landing intended
Climb speed 75-85 kts IAS
Mixture Above 3000 ft lean to obtain max RPM
or use auto mixture.
Elevator trim Set for climb
CRUISE
Power 2000-2500 RPM
Elevator trim Set for level flight
Autopilot On as required
DESCENT
Power Reduce as necessary
Mixture Adjust as necessary, full rich for landing
Flaps One notch below 110 kts, two notches below 85 kts
LANDING
Autopilot OFF
Lights Landing lights ON
Flaps As required
Wheels Down for runway landing. UP for water landing
Airspeed 55-65 kts (flaps down)
Touchdown Main wheels first.
Landing roll Allow tailwheel to drop gently
Elevator Yoke full back after tail wheel drops
Brakes Use gentle braking
AFTER LANDING
Flaps Up
Taxi Yoke full back during taxi
PARKED
Brakes Parking brake set
Electrics , Avionics & Lights Off
Mixture Idle cut off
Ignition key/switch Off
Battery Off
Secure aircraft as necessary
