The C.R. 42 was the final evolution of a long-lasting biplanes family. A very manouvrable and affordable aircraft, it could be an hard match for the first series of Hurricanes, it was outdated and obsolete when entered service with Regia Aeronautica in 1939. The many built served in various roles during WWII: fighter, fighter-bomber, naval escort, night fighter, training.
